what step to tackle next?

hello all, looking to see if anyone whats to help me in a build process? more so on the steps to take and what to go abouts 1st? I dont need to know how to spell(dont care!)so if you are reading and dont like my spelling OR grammer please keep those coments to yourself if thats all you want to help with. I did NOT do NONE of the welding on the truck and only plan to fab brackets for those concerned in the fact that im not experienced in welding.  Well lets get started (sorry) So I've taken back my pro-street build (86 c10 496ci)11/10 after 3yrs and (2) builders  that just couldnt seem to build a drive train, tub & basic body work. so I played repo man and am now going to build this here myself.(in hopes they knew how to build a motor) if you all have read any of my threads I like to do things myself, thats if I know and understand whats going on. so I had the rear end backhafted by a local chassis builder where he hung my 9in, 4.30, full spool & 4-linked it. this weekend I went to put  motor and th400 in place & got hung up @ flex plate. didnt seem to want to go on flush by hand? was told you have to tap this on? then converter, & trans. so I just set motor in for the time being. I plan to next pick it back up and mount plate, verter, & trans and place them all in together along with trans crossmember. so the pics are shown w/o trans in place, as you see im shifted towards driver side(brake booster) too far? is this b/c the trans isnt mount as well as trans crossmember to pull it more towards center? thanks for reading! Reply:That thing will go together and come apart about 1000 times before its finished. Like Zap said, just do what you can with what you have at the time. you'll figure out what you need as you go.
Reply:your gonna need a min. of a 6 point roll bar to support the back half .leave the door bars out until last makes getten in and out easier while your still fabricating if your not a competent welder i'd start there first good luck with your truck looks great so far

Reply:Help me understand your problem. The flexplate did not fit flat against the crank or the transmission did not set against the engine block? If the tranny isn't going all the way on make sure the convertor is all the way in the tranny. you should feel 3 steps as it goes in  and the the convertor will clear the flex plate by a 1/4" or so and will have to be pulled out to meet the flexplate once the tranny is bolted down. The convertor may have to be rotated as much as a half turn as you lift to support its weight and push. This will engage the front pump in the tranny.  It is possible to force it together without engaging the front pump. I done this when I was 16. The result is the flexplate will flex and the tranny will do nothing when the motor is started. Sometime the pump lugs will fall in place after the motor is started, not always. It can result in a broken flexplate.If the flexplate doesn't go on the crank all the way it usually pulls up on the crank when you bolt it down.Last edited by tresi; 08-27-2011 at 03:52 PM.Tough as nails and damn near as smart

Reply:It's seems as if maybe paint or some crap built up from time? All I did was just thread it threw & it seemed to clean it up, didn't seem as if I rethreaded anything. Reply:i'm doing an 84 step side with a small block right now putting in a cage ,also back halfed except customer wants air bag suspension air bags suck for drag racing but kids want their trucks to go up and down i'll put up pics as soon as i can

Reply:you'll probably end up having to use either manual disk brakes or one of the small diameter vacuum boosters.... my 80 model, the stock vacuum booster wouldnt fit with the big block and tall valve covers so i went with manual wilwood disks with a corvette manual brake cylinder from ebc brakes.tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/

Reply:if you want power brakes and a booster wont fit look for a hydro boost system off a 3 quarter ton truck it works off the power steering

Reply:if your leaving the firewall that color i would go ahead and mount the engine and tranny... if your leaving the cab mounted, then i would go to mounting your headers and steering column and steering shaft (would almost bet you run into a clearance problem with steering shaft and headers)...  then i would probably go ,brakes, fuel system,cooling system and get an ignition wired up to be able to start it and move it under power.. did you happen to have a written contract with the builder?tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
