Ok just moved my trailblazer from my 1/2 tom short to my new super duty shortbed and turned it sideways. This f250 has the step and handle on the tail gate which I just had 2 knee surgeries and certainly need. on the f150 I just had a 1/4" plate on the tail gate and a vise. to use for a welding platform. On the F250 the tailgate 1st off is not flat like the f150 because it has a stow away handle that assist in getting up in the truck. With the tool box and trailblazer sideways I have approx a 3'x4' area open at the rear of the truck. I am thinking about having a table that can roll out over the tail gate when down. I have seen guys do something simular for thier welder to slide out to work in . Has anyone done this or does anyone have images or know where I can get some ideas to complete such a project. OR does anyone have a better idea..Thanks GuysEquipmentLincoln 200SATrailBlazer 275MillerMatic 252Hypertherm Powermax 600
Reply:There's a welder around here that has a Tommylift, that he added a work surface of 1/2" plate to the platform. Durable, plus have use of the liftgate for loading tools and parts. Lifts come and go on craigslist.
Reply:I would be leery about welding on the bed of a new pickup. Talking to a pipeliner the other day with a pipe notch on the back of his bed. He says he's gone through 2 ECM's on his 2006 diesel pickup. just food for thought.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
