could someone give a short idea of what the advantages of using the pulse, and when you should use it. thanks.
Reply:Pulsing which process?For MIG (GMAW) it allows you to use spray transfer (which means no spatter and faster travels speeds and deposition rates) in all positions, not just flat and horizontal since the puddle is not quite as fluid. Also, pulse spray MIG can be used on thinner materials than regular spray. Some people report better cleaning action when pulsing with aluminum. Pulse spray also has a lower heat input than regular spray so there is less distortion. however, you also get slightly less penetration.For TIG (GTAW) the advantages are much the same: lower heat input/less distortion. Pulsing in the lower frequencies can be useful for training purposes since it helps the welder get into a steady rhythm with the filler. When doing thin sheet, the high point in the pulse gives a larger, easier to manipulate puddle, while the low point gives the puddle a little time to cool to prevent burn through (this goes for both AC and DC polarity).Visit Tensaiteki.com
