i am now using a lincoln square wave ac/dc plant which is fitted with a murex water cooled torch, the water cooler unit was an add on made with a coolant pump fom a band saw, recently the torch keeps heating up and melting the pipe which takes the water back out at the head of the torch, what torch would be best or dose the watercooler unit not have enough pressure to circulate the water?
Reply:Tig torches require very little water "pressure"I pee with more pressure than that..After all those plastic hoses wont put up with too much..Does any water come out the end if you disconnect the fitting before the tank?..The power side of the torch is the drain side of the coolant..Is it possible that its hooked up backwards??Can you post pics of the unit and machine??...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:il post some pictures 2moro its 22.00 here in ireland ready for my bed, thers no water coming out of outlet and everything seem to be alright ,think i need a heavier duty torch, the pipe at the torch seems to be perished a bit but i stuck the air gun in pipe and the water came out outlet

Reply:T.T...."typical" water coolers operate between 40-50 psi and flow around 1.5-2 Gpm or 5.6-7.6 Lpm. It would be best if you could plumb a pressure gauge in line (before the torch) to see if your system is producing adequate pressure. Also, Zap is correct (as usual) the water returns from the torch through the power lead. If you have an old machine: I believe electric solenoids were used to control the flow of water. Check the solenoid, if you one, for proper operation. As far as torch sizing goes....we need more info on how many amps you are pushing through your torch. Did the torch you are using come with the machine from the factory or was it also an add on. There is a load of info available on the web about torches. For instance: Weldcraft's site will tell you the range of operation for all of their torches. Hope this helps !-Graham-Mechanical EngineerAutosport Mechanic/Fabricator
