Reply:In my limited experience, I've just about given up on a 3 pass built up weld. The last pass has to be pretty wide, and you have to pile it up against the vert piece of steel. It winds up requiring a pretty wide pass with a high angle, or a weave to put heat into both toes.Point that sucker up high, and come down on a side to side weave to fill in the gap.Or better yet..........do it in four passes (which I know you can't do for the test). Two on the "floor", fill in between the two, then build the last pass between the third pass and the vert steel. It makes for a tighter, more focused, hotter bead.but if ya gotta do it, make sure you get heat in both toes. Aim as you move the gun up and down as you proceed"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:gun is almost pointed straigt at the vertical steel, and you move it up and down to place the heat in both toes, but always keep it pointed almost straight at the vert steel"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I suppose it could be put this wayyou need penetration on the vert plate, and fusion on the previous passes. the real heat needs to be on the vert"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/ |
