I've seen some post and pictures on here where guys have brazed parts with a TIG and some silicon bronze filler.  What shielding gas are you using and does it require a flux? Have  a small cast part for my bandsaw that needs mending and think this would be a good procedure. Thanks."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251   Syncrowave 300   30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200   1 short hood    SA250    SAM 400

Reply:I seem to get a more stable arc with green, but I really only have two choices...Don't melt the parent metal. My name's not Jim....
Reply:i.ve been happy with results from dcen, no change from mild steel tig setup..same argon, but ive had difficulty with truly brazing it(no parent melt and capillary type filler flow), seems very strange but when i make a puddle on the ms the bronze flows into it nice..more like weld than braze..
Reply:Argon and DCEN is what I've used on a chainsaw muffler. No flux. Seems like you have to bust the surface tension on the silicon bronze to get it to wet out on the steel.Last edited by Kelvin; 09-01-2011 at 10:02 AM.
Reply:Silicon bronze can be used ac or dc. On steel dc usually works best, on cast if I am having wet-out prblems I try ac and sometimes it will work better than dc.Argon, red, gold, orange, or grey tungsten.PeterEquipment:2  old paws2  eyes (that don't look so good)1  bad back
Reply:See, this is why I come here. All sorts of good ideas to fart around with! Reply:Some good info here with aluminum bronze not sil bronze.http://www.weldingtipsandtricks.com/...cast-iron.htmlIt has worked for me on a couple of occasions.  Red tung  a/c       Sil bronze dc on stainless is sweet.Argon only.Dynasty 200dxV
Reply:I love using silicon bronze. It is awesome to ise cause it makes nice beads and goes down fast. One thing is that it works best to do a little preheat on anything. .125 and thicker cause you go fast and use little heat the bead will tend to crack or shrink and create alot of stress at the end. It works best to put a few extra dabs of filler at finish and very slowly taper off the heat so this doesn't happen. I use dc with argon. I try not to melt any base metal but sometimes you get a slight amount in there. Also alot of surface area is needed so bevels are important. Think of it as glue and keep everything ground shiny and clean with lots of area for the filler to stick to.Millermatic 252Lincoln 175 plusTA 185tswTA 161stlhypertherm pmax 45Victor torchHenrob torchAn S10 for each day of the week

Reply:Yes, sometimes called "MIG brazing" when used on steel. Popular for galvanized and for thin steel such as auto body panels.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:OK, more info on the MIG brazing, are we using a spool of bronze or feeding bronze to the MIG mild steel puddle, new one on me and sounds cool, like the man said, lots of new info here to try."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251   Syncrowave 300   30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200   1 short hood    SA250    SAM 400
Reply:Speaking of MIG, I have some old small spools of Arcos EN67 which are listed as #813 in the top chart here:   Arcos Nickel Alloys Wires like this are used with standard MIG processes, this for welding copper/nickel alloys..Last edited by Oldiron2; 09-02-2011 at 11:36 PM.
