you can cook enough meat to feed 30-40 people, I have a BB-Q every 6 months for my customers. Im origanly from the south GA, I make some pretty mean BBQ. I make everything from my own BBQ sauce to BBQ pit. Unfortunally I do have to by the meat though.    BLACKSMITH  Journeyman welder/fabricator

Reply:" feed 30-40 people ..."Nah, maybe you can cook enough at a go to feed 30-40 polite dainty people, or maybe 10-12 hungry men.   Unless you're cooking whole briskets or other BIG chunks o' meat, and then maybe you're up to 20 hungry men at a time.Neat project.  Besides using a 100 gallon propane tank as the main object, what else did you use?  How are the grates supported, just some tabs here and there?  Do you have grates or a shelf inside the chamber to support the wood/coal, or is it just sitting on the inside of the tank?  Are there multiple grate levels?  Any flue/damper arrangement?  Did you just use silver high-temp paint on the outside or something else? And since this is WeldingWeb, where are the welds and how did you make them?

Reply:OK, 12 whole turkeys at a time on that grill is bigger than I thought.   Again, nice job.
Reply:Any idea whether the fumes given off by used tanks (or tanks of unknow metal type) are harmful?Looks good.
Reply:We've used them for years.  We always fire it up a few times before we actually put any food on it.  Just in case.

Reply:Hey, you know I see BBQ's like this all the time, and I even have a set of  plans to build one, but I can never seem to come across the tanks.  Did you just stumble on this one, or what???I just want to know where I can get a tank like that. I have an idea for my dream smoker but I'll need two tanks, one about the size you have and one smaller size for the fire box. I really admire your work. As I like to say, bar-b-que is life, everything else is just details.
Reply:awww man, shouldn't have clicked on this thread, now i'm even more hungry
Reply:call the local gas company...  Most of them will give away the "scrap" tanks if you sign a waiver stating you won't use it for fuel storage..I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
