I have read here you can short circut and spray weld with 92% argon and 8% Co2. So I bit the boolit and signed a lease on a huge tank of AG8. Now that I have used it for a while, I prefer the C/25 for short circut. It does spray weld with about 3 more volts than needed with 98% Argon/ 2% o2. Most of what I do is short circut, so when the tank is empty, I am going back to C/25. I can get an 80 cf bottle of 92/8 for the spray welding when needed.Like my dad sez, when you get something that does more than one thing, you get the best of neither. How true.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Yes unless you are welding 1/4 inch and heavier there is no reason for spray. The magic number is 20 percent for spray. C 20 was the same price as C25 when I last rented a bottle. I have a a bottle of C25 at home and it works for me. Since I am working with heavy material at my job I will get frowns from management if I am not in spray... time is money.
Reply:I thought it was 10 % for spray. Reply:It varies with the power of the machine and the size of the wire you are trying to spray. My PowCon 300SM will BARELY spray .045" with C-16. A MM210 will probably need 98Ar/2O2, and so on.But yes, C-16 through C-25 are best for short circuit.
Reply:My invertec will spray with C/25, but I have no control over the weld. Its too hot. Today I was working more with the AG8. If I set the wire speed, then the volts, Weld and turn the inductance, I got it to weld as well as C/25 with less penatration on +2.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:My MM210 will spray easily with C-8 and .030......and David, the abbr for Argon is Ar. Ag is the abbr for silver...fwiw....or is the AG8 the designation of the mix? |
