well, a large rock left me with out a skid plate a while ago, and after a few brake rotors i figured it was time to make a new one.  good time too cause i have the engine out for a rebuild and im waiting for parts.  also im out of school now and no one is hireing, so i might as well weldthe beastwhat im working withpieces cut for the railswelding the angles updefininatly not my best work, but it will do.  ill just grink them off and paint it cutting the plate tacked up more welding
Reply:hard to spot, but theres a little undercut along the top edgelooks like im good with penatrationand thats as far as i got today, gota put another plate on the angled up pieces if you know what i mean so that rocks will slide under, weld on my mounting brackets, drill a few drain holes, paint it,and bolt it on.
Reply:The fillets in the next to last pic look ok.  I can't wire weld for crap.  (For that matter, my stick bubblegum ain't all that great either)I'd give anything to be young enough again to be able to tuck my leg underneath me like that for any length of timeThe heat signature on the bottom side of the weld says it all.  Good heatDo the li'l sparky things hurt that bare skin??  Assuming it's flux core, the spatter is HUGE.  Even burn holes in my pants.  Ouch, ooch, ouch, ouch, %^%$#@*!"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Nice use for a pallet.  What blade do you have on that saw?
Reply:thanks for the coments guys, i would hope the fillets look ok, i have an all position ticket for FCAW i am a little stiff today, so my next project is a real work bench, but for now the pallets are all i have, and a 7"x1/8" cutoff blade for the saw and my angle grider is all i have, but im cruising the pawn shops for a decent cheap cutoff saw.  that will be nice, but i would like to find one that can do angles.i am running the wire as hot as i can without the breaker poping.  its a 15a circut and the welder is suposed to have a 20a, but it works and looks like i got the heat i was looking for. normaly i would be wearing my leather, but im from vancouver island where it doesnt get much hotter than 15 degrees or so, and it was close to 25 here in vancouver yesterday. the grider sparks off the saw bugged me more than the spatter.  haha im used to spatter raining down on me from school doing overhead and such. even with the leather i got some good burns.i wish i could find some leather knee pads too. (no knee pad jokes please ) those cheap foam ones got a few holes burned in them already.  i learned real quick in school that anything not leather or metal will get burned if theres welding going on. I will post more pics as soon as i get some more work done on it.  maybe today, but im hopeing the parts for the engine will be in and i can start puting it back together.
