I don't want to hijack Maverick's thread.But to illustrate a point......... (new thread)Average feeder, like I build them, will handle around 16 head.  Depending on whether you got med or large framed cows, thats 900 to 1000+ per head (even more, depending on the cow).  All of 'em pressing and fighting to get at the hay.  Lot of stress from all sides of the feeder.And that ain't countin' the bull.  'Bout the weight of a car.I got about the ugliest bull in 48 states.  He is the standby bull.  Lost the good looking bull last year (so now I guess he's the main bull).  This one's ugly, but makes good calves.  In the 50lb range.  Don't have to pull 'em.  And they bulk up VERY FAST.  Lookit the meat on that animal.  Muscle equates to scale weight, and scale weight eaquates to dollars.  When you eat meat, yer eatin' muscle.  Ain't pretty, but he keeps the ladies happyBUT WHAT I'M SAYI'N IS......... Reply:Samm you are right that is one ugly bull but he has a small head throws light calves that hit the ground putting on the lbs.. That sure makes him look beautiful to the bank. Also your right about the fact that the pre made stuff is way to light and it never really fits into the setup the way it would or does if you build it yourself. Do finish your own or sell em as feededrs?

Reply:Sam it sure makes sense what your saying. Sure is allot of weight there.  Man I can't tell an ugly bull from a good looking bull and I guess your cows can't either because your bull still has lots of lady friends .  I don't know much about farming. Heck some might say I don't know much about anything but one thing I have learned over the years and that's farmers are the hardest working, most resourceful people I've seen. They also happed to be great mechanics, welders, electricians and even engineers.
