We had a few required projects in class this go 'round. Once they were done, there was a required student idea project. I knew what i wanted to make, but I had to finish the other half of my double gate first, which I did. I just need to brace the post and mount it. Attached ImagesCity of L.A. Reply:Class is busy enough, lots going on....But, what I really wanted to make, was my truck rack! That was last week.City of L.A. Reply:This week, I kept working after I got home to get to this point.I am still shy of decent welding rods of my own, the Radnor and Forney stuff I have a little of is not as good as the Hobart stuff at school, and I don't have a wire feeder...yet!The truck rack is ... to be continued! Reply:That is definitely a great start! Looks fantastic and very ambitious.
Reply:Don't bang your head getting in/out of the bed. I can't see if the rear or center bar are removable.I do like the design, follows the cab line nicely.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build
Reply:Countering warpage is my biggest headache, next to the center bar anyway! The removable feature is still in the planning stage.City of L.A. Reply:Looks good. I was thinking about that back bar also having hit my head on one or two and hateing to bend to get under others. One comment. Most racks of this type the top and bottom long lengths are continuous. This forms a truss that stiffens the entire rack. With the top lengths being shorts you will be only as strong as the bottom tube at best. May or may not matter depending on what you plan to load, but I can see the lower tube bending at the midle bar if it's loaded heavily. Also you may want to add some vertical posts on top to help keep things on the rack if you haven't already planned for them.
Reply:looks good but i would ad a second set of rails to the top that would act to stiffin up the tube over the cab and keep loads from sliding sideways when turning, looks good keep up the good work.If you like my stuff you can find me on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/theangryanv...ngryanvilforge
