Reply:That looks nice!!!!!Now I'm going to show my ignorance.  Is stainless as strong as plain old carbon steel?  I've never worked with it, and don't know"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Cheers for the replies fellas! Now I'm going to show my ignorance. Is stainless as strong as plain old carbon steel? I've never worked with it, and don't know
Reply:Looks good!  Just curious, what type of trees do you cut? Do you have a fire place or wood boiler?  I just installed a outdoor wood furnace last year and love it.
Reply:Originally Posted by TransTiggerCheers for the replies fellas! Its twice as strong as mild steel i believe and real tough.SS is beautiful to work with, welds like a dream but is a bitch to grind, the wings took me an hour each to grind with a 9" and their only 1/2"thick.I didn't attempt the long verticle blade its was easier to get a mate to mill that.Rob
Reply:Have you used it yet and how did it perform?  Lots of guys build splitters and then re-build them!!!  Looks good, hope it works just as well!!!
Reply:Splitting the logs two ways will put a lot more strain on the hydraulics!  Watch your hoses and seals on the ram (so you don't blow them).Miller Thunderbolt 225Millermatic 130 XPLincoln HD 100 Forney C-5bt Arc welderPlasma Cutter Gianteach Cut40ACent Machinery Bandsaw Cent Machinery 16Speed Drill PressChicago Electric 130amp tig/90 ArcHobart 190 Mig spoolgun ready

Reply:Nice knife!   Best part though, is the lift you have for brining the logs up to the bed of the splitter, now that is way cool!
Reply:Very nice design and work TT.  Haven't had to split wood for heat in years and don't miss it or the cold one bit! What's with the bandaged hand?  OTJ injury?MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Great job on the blade.  I don't get to see many log splitters down this far south.  It is a real treat to see one as well designed as yours.  I hope to be making one in the not to distant future for cutting mesquite.  When I do I might have a couple questions on the hydraulics.
Reply:I made the same thing but diffrent..http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...t=log+splitter...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:The best thing for splitter wedges is old equipment cutting edges, most of em' are AR steel and wont wear out on a splitter.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:How bout some closeups of the lifting/lowering mechanism for the wedge.  That was a good idea, never thought about doing that before.  In the video, it looked relatively effortless to raise and lower it.
Reply:trans tigger,is that you in the avitar?oh yeah nice knife
Reply:Ain't overspray a bi***!  Painted the poor li'l ones combs(guess that's what ya call them, not a chicken person)"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Toe plate is  holding up just fine..I can stand the thing up and push down if needed for the real big stuff.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:I used a set of old wood chipper blades from the chipper at work, worked out great because they are pre-sharpened and they are really tough!
