Here goes a cast iron cold weld (no preheat). I won't arc weld in combustion chambers/cylinders of engines because I haven't seen that hold up yet.The old "do not make another weld untill you can hold your hand comfortably on it" trick works well for these welds. Identify crack, grind clean surface, start at end and weld about 3/8 inch at a time, peen the heck out of it as soon as the torch is laid down. I checked to see if the crack was through by pressuring with rubber tip blowbill held tightly with pressure on one side and spray soap on the other, it leaked.

Reply:moreAnother way to determine when its time to make another weld.IR check weld, then check about 1 inch from weld. If welded area is a few degrees colder than area 1 inch away- go with another weld. Peter Attached Images
Reply:ground weli in valve cover area,re-checked and yes it had a couple of pin holes, epoxy over area to seal, or you can keep spot welding the pin holes untill you have them all. Epoxy faster! Attached Images
Reply:Other head, another crack, same weld! Nothing to leak so no epoxy.Peter Attached Images
