So I have been tiggin with my sync 200 lately and have been getting the torch too hot (I think).  It occured to me that I should prolly upgrade to a water cooled torch.  The torch is the easy part, it's the cooler that I am worried about.  I would like to build my own and in one of those late night flashes of genius (maybe), I thought, what about gutting a dorm fridge.  It's got a compressor and condensor  and makes things cold.  Any problems jump out at you guys with that?On a side note, does anybody know what the thread size and pitch is in a WP17 torch?  I have two heads that now have the butt caps and gas lens kinda stuck.  I can give each of them about a half turn and they stop there.  If I can get them out, I would like to chase the threads so I can continue to use them untill the water cooled setup comes to fruition.  It looks like the WP18 torch uses the same consumables as my WP17 (I guess in my case, the whole torch may have been consumed).  Can somebody double-quadruple verify this for me?  A yes or no from personal experience would be great.I have already done a search and a little research on my own and it appears that a carbonator motor and a procon pump are the prefered means for circulating the coolant.  Are all the procon pumps adjustable for pressure? Or just certain models?
Reply:I brought my #17 home torch pieces to class (#18 watercooled) and used them interchangeably; cup, collet, back cap, gas lens or regular collet body. My back cap would stick on occasion, but just the lightest pressure with a pair of pliers would loosen it. Don't know about the rest.9-11-2001......We Will Never ForgetRetired desk jockey. Reply:Thanks Craig.  I got my new toasted flex head apart today so I could put the collet back in my original head.  New flex head....junk.  New gas lens....junk.  New back cap....junk.  Turns out the only things salvagable were the collet, cup, and insulators.  Collet went in my original torch, cup and insulators went in the tool box since they aren't any good without a gas lens.  Instead of a WP18, I am now thinking of a 20?  Whatever the smaller one is anyways.  I have to get all new stuff so I might as well get a more compact torch.  I did manage to find out that the threads in the WP 17-18 are 3/8"-32.  Ultra fine.
