hey all i have to go size up a job tommoro for a company that installs milking parlors etc.  i am familiar with all the in and out's of parlors etc since i have been farming for 10 years.  I was wondering if you had some recommendations on rods for welding stainless steel.  This is for non sanitary work.  like the manure pans to post etc.  I have a dynasty that i could take and use but dont think i would make much time.     I really want to do my best work and know what i am doing via some practice etc.  if the stinking milk price ever gets back to 20 dollars a hundred this guy could swing me a lot of work.  thanks for any and all helpwww.burdettenetworks.com
Reply:sorry if i confused anybody i meant i could take my TIG but think stick would be more efficent for this application.www.burdettenetworks.com
Reply:Lot's of folks make stick electrode for welding stainless.  Best bet is to find out what the pans etc are made of, and then call someone at customer service for Lincoln, Hobart/McKay, Esab, Select Arc, etc. and get a recommendation.  If you post back here with the type of base metal and thickness of material you'll be working with, I'm sure the crowd could recommend what rod to buy.Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
Reply:update    i got some 308 1/8 inch rod and some scrap to pracitce on not having much luck with the verts.   anyways i also got a ten pound spool of stainless for my suitcase and will probably use this with a argon gas need to practice some this afternoon.www.burdettenetworks.com
Reply:hey all so i ended up using my engine drive to power the suitcase welder with a 308 .035 hard wire and argon for a gas.  I will be using Stargon (same as i already use for standard hard wire)  on the next outing.  The Argon shielded well but the man at the lws said i will get all around better performance out of the stargon.  I do love my stargon with hardwire and it will get on more thing out of the trailer if i dont need the argon.  all in all it went good i was happy with how it went and the customer seemed happywww.burdettenetworks.com

Reply:Olin runs milk cows.  The cows are above sort of a pit walkway when they're in the stalls.  Butts out!!!I have a sneakin' suspicion that kburd is takin'  a good shower, and hosing his camera off.  We could be talking a virtual rain of sh@t hereFunniest thing is when the udder runs dry, and the auto milker starts trying to suck air.  Ol' Flossy's eyes get a bit rounder"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:hey guys when i go back to finish i will get some pics.  this is all new instalation so no shat or anything yet.  They have all different kinds of parlors and depending on how much you want to spend affects how much shat you get on you.    If you are interested in seeing some i would suggest googling for farms with websites in your area and contacting them about a visit with your kids.  A good well maintained clean farm is a thing of beauty and unfortunatley not to many people ever get to see one.  always seems like the news media seeks out some **** shack dive to do a taping at.    you can check out my familys web site  www.windyknollview.comwww.burdettenetworks.com
Reply:You have a neat site!I don't believe I have what it takes to dairy.  2 milkings a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.Nooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:thanks sam  dairy farming is just damn grueling it make welding and fabricating seem like a party sometimes.  i will go weld on christmas in an emergency but i have to go to the farm and feed for my brother and dad no matter what just sucks lots of times which is why alot of people are bailing out of it.  that and the fact that you can not make any good money just dairy farming you have to have a niche of sometype.www.burdettenetworks.com
Reply:Alls I have to say is GOD Bless the American Farmer. I wouldn't mind paying 4.50 a galllon for milk if the farmer got more of it, but dairy farmers don't get but pennys on the dollar for their product. Hats off to you and thanx for sticking with it.Lincoln Ranger 8                        Lincoln 175                          Drill pressLincoln 225 mig                            Plasma                              8 ft brake        52" jump shear
Reply:gclamp the pricing system is so screwed up.  dairy farmers have lost all control we buy at retail and sell at wholesale just stupid.  the co-ops dont help us like they used too.  the milk price now is the exact same per hundred weight as 1975 with todays input cost that spells disaster.www.burdettenetworks.com
