Ran across this video that roughly demonstrates the three arc transfer modes in MIG welding.  Can't see the puddle, but can see difference in spatter generation and can clearly hear the difference in the arc (even between short arc and globular). Here's my brief explanation of the modes.Short arc:  Low wire feed speed (wfs) and voltage.  Spatter, with uniform frying crackle sound.  Wire hits, shorts, deposits, burns back, in regular fashion.Globular:  Medium wfs and voltage.  Spatter, less uniform frying crackle sound.  Similar to short arc, except arc is more erratic because larger "globs" form on the end of the wire.Spray arc:  High wfs and voltage.  No spatter, no crackle, smooth hissing sound.  Wire never shorts to the base metal, small droplets are propelled from the wire, across the arc to the puddle.edit:  Just found second part of above video that shows slow motion, close-up, thru-the-lens view of wire and puddle!  Very nice.Last edited by pulser; 07-27-2007 at 03:49 PM.
Reply:Great video, thanks!
Reply:Yeah we did all that when lorenzo brought his trailer and gear down for the last class..Mucho fun! When he set it on "kill"  ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:i need to drive back to work and ask my boss why my MM251 doesn't have that setting."Retreat hell, were just fighting in the other direction"Miller Trailblazer 302, Extreme 12 VS, Dimension 400, Spectrum 375, HF 251D-1, Milermatic 251 w/ spoolgun  Hypertherm 1000Lincoln sp 1702000 F-450 to haul it

Reply:Wow.  That is a cool video.

Reply:I use 92/8, I can't get spray until about 26  volts with .035.  I need 28 or 29 for .045.  My wirematic 250 will spray with 98/2 % o2.  I think if I did it for a while it would burn up the gun.DavidLast edited by David R; 07-27-2007 at 10:44 PM.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Yea, you are right, that was a typo, I did not catch  should have been 92/8I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:I got to play with Spray Arc transfer and Pulsed Spray Arc this past week for the first time.   Holy crap!   The beads are amazing.    The pulsed spray arc machine was HOT (both were Miller 350P), but we were also using MetalCore on the non-pulsed machine and hardwire on the pulsed to show the differences.    The beads were so uniform and flat, not to mention you could actually run it uphill/vertical and get it to run like 71M dual shield flux core... without the SLAG!!!
Reply:any one have imaged of the welds after each?
