Not completely sure that the side swipe helped it along but at 0:50 it happens and at 3:20 it looks like it was the result of insufficient weld reinforcement to compensate for the stress placed on the rear end.http://izismile.com/2011/10/05/drag_racing_fail.htmlWelding Supervisor Department of Corrections.

Reply:Number 1, hit the wall and kept on driving.  Just stupid.Number 2, the axle litterally ripped out of the ladder bar mounts.    Its possible this happened because he had too much pre-load.  That car did launch awful - ladder bars like launching flat flat flat.  But he should have bend the ladder bars long before the mounts ripped off the housing.  That was too clean of a break.  I vote substandard welding.   I'm pretty sure companies like Currie offer .250 wall tubing in their axles.  That's not going to get welded with a 110V welder.Also the side hit might have tweaked the Panhard bar.  Shouldn't have done much to the ladder bar.Lets put it this way, plenty of cars making a lot more power than that one never see suspension failure for lifetime of the car/chassis.  I'm guessing this one probably an early run, like run No. 2 for him.Thankfully he learned the good (but hard) way - he survived.Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX
Reply:If the welds boxing in the 4-link axle mount are any indication of the mount to axle welds it is no surprise.I like how they act like they accomplished something when they get out of the car. Reply:Hey welding machine, there ain't a shackle bolt on that car. It was a four bar and the welds holding the bat wings onto the axle broke off. They likely didn't use enough amps on it when welding. Those rear axle tubes are thick steel, and take a lot of heat!

Reply:Can't be much of a Sanctioning Body at that track....When the driver is done acknowledging the crowd, and steps clear of his car he is wearing SHORTS... The Firesuit Jacket is kind of redundant after seeing that.Good to see that the driver's prosthetic left leg isn't keeping him from doing something he appears to enjoy.Crappy Welding = Bad things happening.Later,Jason
