Been doing the mold welding thing for 19 years now. Kinda bored with it and looking for something more challenging. What other types of welding should I consider. Here is a link showing some of my abilities.http://weldingweb.com/album.php?albumid=48
Reply:I didn't know they made precision TIG robots that could access the internet. Not sure what you could do that would be more "interesting" than mold welding. Might get in touch with NASA or another aerospace company.
Reply:More ?challenging?Maybe you could try it standing on your head.Otherwise I think that would be hard to beat, unless you like got a job in a foundry where it is always over 100°.A butterfly without wings, is just an ugly bug
Reply:How do you get into doing that kind of work?  That looks cool as hell.(plus, you don't have to lift big heavy things to work on them   )
Reply:beautiful workbe a veterinary..?   looks like you could weld a cats assss if they had the right filler rod...

Reply:Great work, if I were you I would try aerospace work, I think you would enjoy that. Working with thin gauge sheet metal will throw a new twist to it for you if you haven't done much of that before. You'll have a chance to work with many different alloys and a chance to practice full penetration welds where purging is required, plus you'll need to pass your tests.. Don't get me wrong, your work is great and I don't think aerospace is harder, just different......something you'd probably enjoy.RegardsEr70s-2

Reply:Hey! Finally someone how I can relate to.I also do micro welding in the mold industry. What kind of welder you using?Weldlogic?
Reply:Hey Hutch, how are things up north? Actually everything except for the copper pc was done on a Lincoln Precision tig. I have a few Weldlogics as well as a Pro-Fusion unit in house. These units are great when they're running. Customer service is horrible on these units. I can do about 90% of the welding I can do with either of those units with the Lincoln. Weldlogic just loves hearing that.  It just takes a little more creative thinking and a much steadier hand. Tell me a little about yourself and send me some pics. Love to chat with fellow microwelders.  Dan [email protected]  Tel: 717-244-4648
Reply:For those of us that are curious, how do you get into micro welding?  Are there special classes you take, or do you just kind of fall into it if you like the small, precise work? Thanks!Jason
Reply:Hey Dan.Im a mold maker in Vermont.Ive been micro welding for about ten years for the shop I work for.I had never tig welded before coming to work here but they have told me I have a knack for it.We weld a lot of tool steel,S-7,H-13,stainless.I have had thoughts of buying my own welder and doing some on the side at night but just not sure if it will pay off right now.I will try to get some pictures soon but am having trouble with my camera.Well, good luck with the job hunt.Talk to you soon.                                                    Mike
Reply:Cool, saw your post on PM too. I do micro plasma welding, but don't have much experience with micro tig. Any of you guys do micro plasma?
Reply:Never heard of micro plasma welding.Tell us more. What do you weld? And to foxhole,I kind of fell in to this welding thing.I was enrolled in a four year moldmaking apprenticship and the shop I work for does thier own in house welding.I asked if I could try it and started practicing and here I am ten years later and the shops only welder.Good for me I guess. As far as classes I think Nova Tech in Rhode Island does some training but I think the best training is just practice and time.
