Can someone tell me if there is any special way to store the TIG wire? So far I have taken a piece of PVC and pot two end caps on it.Where I live there is a lot of humidity, so would the humidity trapped inside the tubes cause problems for the wire or is it better to let them breath like a fine wine... Also, has anyone has any problems leaving a rubber band on the wire to keep them grouped? I recently got 1 lb of the 1/16 wire and I left the rubber bands on it for a few days and I noticed a black ring on all the outside surfaces and it was difficult to remove. Thanks in advance!Build a Barstool Racer at BarFlyRacers.com!
Reply:Yeah, I got black rings too from the rubber bands. I take em off now.I keep the rods in the blue tubes. Works for me.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I just leave em' in the container they came in. It has rubber caps on it, works fine.
Reply:If my rods get damp or get black rings from rubber bands i just take some sand paper and sand them down until the look nice and shiny again.
Reply:Mine come in long square boxes..And thats where they stay.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Look inside things like shoe-boxes, there should be a little packet of "silica gel. dont not injest. keep away from children". That little packet absorbs humidity. but for a cheap solution through some cast iron (the good stuff that rusts away really fast) in your storage container.

Reply:Thanks for all the posts! When I buy my rods by the pound, I do not get a nice container, but a handful with rubber bands. I think I will stick with the PVC and end caps. Very cheap and I am sure pretty air tight for the need. Thanks again for all your replies!Build a Barstool Racer at BarFlyRacers.com!
Reply:Originally Posted by e_racer1999just gonna mention the silica gel. there's always someone who's faster tho silica is a great dessicant. also, at home depot and lowes they have some dessicant that works pretty well; but it's designed to be used in large storage areas. shoebox silica FTW!
Reply:indeed they do!i would think even putting silica in a regular storage container would be beneficial... |
