Before reading about the brake cleaner problems, I used to occasionaly use that to clean the weld area. In the past Ive also used lacquer thinner, but now I try to use alcohol. I seen Zap uses Acetone to clean before welding. I built a parts washer years ago and use mineral spirits in it, will mineral spirits clean the weld area safely or not? If not, could Acetone be used effectivley in the parts washer? Thanks for the help...
Reply:Acetone might be a little too flammable in a part washer.Lots of fumes too.I usually put a bit on a rag & just wipe the parts down.Buy American, or don't whine when you end up on the bread line.
Reply:You can use the parts washer initially to clean some of the gunk off of your weldment if it has it then you can hose it down with some acetone. The thing with acetone is it dries very fast so you can weld right away and itself does not leave any residue. However there is some depate these days cause most acetone is recycled now and can have some things that may linger behind. This isn't a problem for welding really but gluing or painting it is always something to watch.Millermatic 252Lincoln 175 plusTA 185tswTA 161stlhypertherm pmax 45Victor torchHenrob torchAn S10 for each day of the week
