I have a Century 80 Amp flux/Mig that I've used for 10 years now. Been great, just low powered. I just bought a Lincoln DC250 CC/CV source and am now watching ebay for a wire feeder, however I was thinking: could I use the Century as a wire feeder?I'd have to stay within the torch's (Tweeco) current limits of course. This would assume the Centruy could feed at a speed to match the higher welding current (might be able to "hot rod" the motor/circuit). Seems I'd just have to switch the welding power circuit to the DC-250 and leave the Century's open circuited and just powering the feed motor. This seems hella simple and cheap (free), at least for a interim solution. What am I missing? Thanks.
Reply:It should work, but you will be overtaxing your mig gun.  Instead of cranking up the wire speed, use bigger wire.  LN-25 go for about $600 or so in Ebone.  I bought a well used LN9-GMA for $128.00  No gun, no connector cable.  Works great. A NEW LF-742 can be had for about $800.00.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Buy a Lincoln feeder to go with that machine and stay out of trouble.
