I currently have two sets of oxygen acetylene tanks, O2 125 + Ace 90 and O2 20 + ACE 8. Are there any issues if I connect the regulators for the larger tanks (with adapters) to the smaller tanks? The regulators on the small tanks went bad and I just want to save some money for the few times I want to use the small tanks. ThanksDan
Reply:Maybe its time to upgrade the smaller tanks to a size that will let you use the same set of regs. This may save you $$ since it gets cheaper per cuft to fill the larger tanks.
Reply:That shouldn't be any problem. Just be sure that the adapter for the O2 is intended for O2 service, and hasn't been used or stored improperly. Just a little oil in an O2 system will go boom. If you're buying the adapters new from a welding supplier you shouldn't have any worries.
Reply:The oxygen will not require an adaptor. The acetylene will.The only issue I've had, is that larger regulators are heavier, and can tip over a "porta-torch" rig from the imbalance. You may have to position to regulators to keep it from tipping over (one facing right, one left, etc, but that may leave one set of gauges out of vier), or add some feet to the "tote".
Reply:Thanks for the replies and conformation of what I thought. I'm aware of the dangers but thanks for looking out for my safety. My general use of the welding equipment was as an artist sculptor by these days its mostly home remodeling. I got tired of dragging the large tanks into the house for plumbing repairs and figured the small tanks would be much user friendly. I never was that good of a welder (good enough though!)but Will definitely comb through this site for tips on becoming a better welder.Thanks |
