Can you use Mig wire (copper coated) for small O/A welds that I dont feel like using stick?Thanksthe big S
Reply:I've never done it but some have used coathangers for filler..I say why not!!! ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:If o/a stands for Oxy Acet then yes you can use mig wire for it. Gas welding and Tig welding filler rods are exactly the same and a common is a R65. A typical steel mig wire is like a ER70S-6 E=electrode. R=Rod 70=ksi as welded minimum tensile strength S=solid 6=silicon compisiton. So TIG and MIG filler fall under the same AWS specification. So Mig can be used for both mig and tig.
Reply:Exactly what Go1lum said. It may take many feet of it though depending on the job. The copper will burn off so no worries.
Reply:I recently ran out of ally Tig filler , only had a small bit to go so I got a few lengths of 1.2mm mig wire cut them to about 3' long held one end with pliers put other end in a cordless drill ...twisted them nicely and tight . If the mig wire on hand is too fine for oxying try it.A good guess is better than a bad measurement

Reply:They all work interchangeably, but they do weld differently.  I have noticed that the o/a rods are more fluid while molten.  You wont notice much if you use them while running TIG, but you will notice a difference when you run a ER rod while doing o/a.
Reply:Yes.  As stated the respective materials do flow differently.

Reply:I use O/A exclusively, and Ive always used rolls of 14- or 16-gauge wire. I moved down to 14gauge as I felt I could get better control with the thinner wire. You can buy a 200ft roll of it at a hardware store for like 7 bucks I think. Much better than 10 bucks for 50ft worth of rod that you end up wasting a good 5-10 feet of from the little short pieces left over.
