ok so after about a week of not tiging I went out to use my sycrowave 200 and now I am geting a blue color on my tungsten enyone know what going on this has never happened. Millermatic 211 with 150 spool gunDynasty 350 Hypertherm powermax 30XP
Reply:it's oxidation. gas leak, insufficient flow and/or post flow etc.the tips look contaminated rather than just discoloured from not enough post flow time.
Reply:more gas. They can get hot from grinding and turn dark. If you slow down on the griding, they will not turn blue and what is there will come right off. If it started not blue, then like I said first more gas. .1 sec of preflow, 10 to 15 welding flow unless its aluminum and expierment with post flow. 1 second for every 10 amps it more than plenty.Real world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:If that is DC, there is to much current.SMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases. There all here. :
Reply:Oxygen is reaching your tungsten, and possibly contaminating your welds you're not out of argon are you?
Reply:you should also try keeping you tungsten out of the puddle, you got big globs o' steel on there. And it would seem the contamination is occuring back in the cup, or even perhaps in the collet area. Maybe the o ring is bad on the backcap?Last edited by sn0border88; 10-14-2007 at 12:07 PM.Have we all gone mad?

Reply:not necessarily, I went through the same thing, looks identical to not enough postflow, for some reason the tip stays relatively unscathed, I beleive that its cause it cools faster than the rest of the tungsten. Remember, tungsten reacts only when heated, to oxygen. So, POSTFLOW NOT HIGH ENOUGH heh... Looks like he did quite a bit of welding there.Various GrindersVictor Journeyman torch200cf Acet. 250cf oxygenLincoln 175 plus/alpha2 gunLincoln v205t tigLincoln 350mpEsab 650 plasmaWhen you can get up in the morning, Its a good day.Live each day like its your last. |
