I have a old miller bluestar 2e not sure of year and was just wondering if anyone knew what windings it has? Also if any experience how would the arc compare to say a redface or even blackface?

Reply:Pull the covers off and look, might be able to tell what the windings are
Reply:I have no idea what the windings in the Miller are but it won't compare with an SA200 with either color face. Not even close. I've run all three.
Reply:the windings are copper, i have one that dont run. trying to decide if its worth restoring or just junk it. somebody might need the parts.
Reply:Your trying to compare bananas to watermelons here. But if it runs good and it's your first machine or you can get it at a decent price go for it. They weld pretty good for a small engine drive as long as your not pipelineing or something critical. It could be a good break in machine to learn on, as said if it runs good. If your doing small jobs around the house or something, it's OK. I wouldn't want to rely on one to make a living with if that's what you want. That's the machine I first learned on. Even if it's not completely PERFECTLY running there are quit a few folks here that may be able to help you get it running that way. That is if you are a liitle mechanically inclined and follow directions. Hog in the post above may be able to help you out with some parts from his. If you get the one your asking about you may want all of his to have plenty of spare parts if the serial #s match close enough.Last edited by Bistineau; 10-31-2011 at 08:38 PM.
Reply:mines ac/dc with a 12 hp tecumsee that parts arent available for.  it was given to me as a non running, gotta check it out and see what it needs. i doubt its worth fixing because of parts availability.      i"ll post it in classifieds if i part it out.
Reply:thanks for all the input im always looking on craigslist at machines and was wondering what do you think a decent redface should sell for?

Reply:Originally Posted by Stick-manFrom past posts here, NOTHING compares to an SA200. And you're trying to compare, what some would say, Lincolns finest, to Millers bottom. I see alot of fence companies using the Bluestars. Not enough amperage or duty cycle for even a rookie like me.As far as the windings, call Miller. To be honest, I haven't really read anything I can remember about Blue Stars, here on WeldingWeb.

Reply:appreciate it duane, getting the motor running right is the easy part,  getting the wires all hooked back up and the electrical going is gonna be the hard part.  i'm a diesel trk tech not a electrician.  lol
Reply:Just take your time and look the schematic over and compare it to what you see inside.  Identify as many wire #s as you can and just trace each one to its termination points keeping in mind the schematic is not a "point-to-point" diagram so connections won't necessarily follow the same sequence as shown in the drawing but the total indicated "circuit" will still be made one way or another.Don't hesitate to post up photos for component identification if you need to.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:my dad, who turned 74 yesterday, gave it to me on the condition i fixed. he was a welding machine tech for gulf oxygen in houston back in the 70s, but he cant see enough now to read the schematics.
