I was just wondering, before I reinvent the wheel, if anyone has made an adaptor for the Harbour Freight tire changer to work on a 2" hitch receiver?  I need something that is portable and won't take up much space.  I know I can put studs in the concreat but then I can't take the changer with me to change a tire on the bike while off roading.  Any ideas????????thanksGarySouderton, Pa.

Reply:Dirt bike tires.  Yeah bicycle tires can be done by hand.  Well in a pinch(no pun intended).Really I just mentioned the dirt bike tires to show the need to be portable.  I need to be able to take this to a buddies house for various tires including in the field for off road.  I figured the best way to anchor the thing is to mount it to the hitch on the truck.  I have an idea in mind(pretty simple) but if someone alrealy made one I would like to see their idea, it may be better.GarySouderton, Pa.
Reply:Just take a look at how it'll be used, and make the modifications.  You're in the best position to know your custom needsIf you have a welding machine, the sky's the limit"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I think this is what you had in mind:Take a look at these at this web site, they offer a hitch mount which you should be able to easily fab up:http://www.nomar-secure.com/category_s/1.htm
Reply:Thanks for the link.  Man those changers ain't cheap huh?  Well at least I know someone else had the same idea.  I want to mount my HF tire changer to the hitch.  I think I'll build mine and take some picts and post em.  It's really pretty simple.  Even to work on tires at home it would be nice to have a secure mount that can be taken down and stored as a reasonably small  package.GarySouderton, Pa.
Reply:Not sure, but I believe the small Euro style spoons work as good as a changer.  I might be wrong thoughCheck out your local KenTool supplier"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Can you give me a link to a pict of the spoons?thanksGarySouderton, Pa.
Reply:Here is the set up I built, not mobile, but it may provide you some ideas.  This is primarily for street tires. Tire irons are used to remove and install the tire.
Reply:That's pretty cool. I think that would work on the back of a pu.  I already have the HF tire changer.  I wanted to adapt it to a unit I could mount to the receiver on the truck.  Anyway that is a neat tool ya made.GarySouderton, Pa.
Reply:Hey ThumbsHere's a link to the company site http://www.kentool.com You can browse the catalogue.  They might fit the bill, or maybe not.  I suppose you also have to consider portability, ease of use, and possibly scratching the rim if that matters.I use Kentool tire irons for large tractor tires, and have had nothing but good service from them.  They're US made, and carry a lifetime warranty.  A little pricey, but excellent tools"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Ok thanks I'll check it out.GarySouderton, Pa.

Reply:Jay BNow were talkin.  That is even simpler than my idea.  I'll just figure a way to adjust the bottom of the stand and it looks good to me.  I like it simple, easy, cheap and it works. Thanks I'm savein the siteGarySouderton, Pa.
Reply:If you were to use this on your vehicle exclusively you could fab the plate that attaches the square tube to the tire changer so that it positions the base just high enough off the ground to slip a piece of 2x8 board underneath (as a sand foot if you're parked offroad).....or......Instead of having just two holes in the side plate, make the plate longer with more holes along its length, giving you a range of height adjustments allowing it to be used on different vehicles. What goes around, comes around.
Reply:Let me see if I can explain my thoughts.  I was thinkin the same thing as the pict but a 90* piece at the end of the long bar mounted verticaly.  Now the tire changer would have the receiver mounted verticaly to slip over the vertical piece.  This allows the changer to slide up and down to allow the changer to rest on the ground in a variety of surface heights.  It very well maybe just as well to do it the way the pict shows and shim the bottom to fit.  I like the simplicity of the pictured one.  I intend to use it using the hitch mount all the time at home but when away it may be a little different on a dirt road. LOLI just reread the original post.  There is a reason the base is short.  It allows for a couple of padded 4x4's to rest the wheel on so you don't have the disk on the ground.  Sounds like I may keep it the way he made it.  Sounds like it's better 4" or so short.Last edited by thumbs; 07-31-2009 at 10:12 PM.GarySouderton, Pa.
