Have a question... The school I work for asked if I could make some security coverings for 2 8 foot by 4 foot windows... They would like them like the ones they currently have installed on the other buildings... I guess the welder that did them before has moved on and they are having trouble finding someone else... Anyways.. it appears the exisitng bars are hinged and have what looks to be a magnetic lock release of some sorts... Is there a web page to purchase these types of items from? Thanks in advance.. Marc
Reply:do you have any pictures? i'm sure there is a place to find what you are looking for, but i'm not sure what parts you are talking about. the hinges can be ordered from nearly any place (concering the welding industry), but i am not sure about the locks you are talking about. as far as a good place to start, check out McMaster-Carr (www.mcmaster.com). they usually have whatever you need. also look at www.jlindustrial.com. i use J&L for everything and they have never let me down. check you local TSC, LWS, or maybe even a local job-shop. they are probably able to point you in the right direction if they can't get the actual part themselves.later,Andy
Reply:Thanks so much for the response.. I will try to get some pictures today.. Take care.. Marc
Reply:Jansen Ornamental in S. El Monte, CA or King (in Texas)Jansen is a large distributor, good to deal with. They don't sell retail, only to shops 'in the trade'.Do yourself and the customer a big favor--by checking on the existence of any local codes as to panic bar releases, before starting. 'Just be'cuz they've got some panic released window bars installed now---does not mean they're to code.....or even allowed in a Cal. school. My shop's in no. Cal.--and I don't mess around with window bars anymore.Blackbird
Reply:Thanks so much for the responses... I asked around and found that they are connected to the fire alarm system. No one seems to know too much about them... I taked to my friend who is the purchasing director and we came to the same conclusion.. "HUGE LIABILITY" So I think I will pass on this project, but thanks for the info on the suppliers.. take care.. Marc |
