I have a chance to buy a brand new never used still in the box esab 1250 Plasma cutter  for a VERY cheep price.   Anyone want to talk me out of this.   We are talking less than 1/2 retail price.   I have been eyeing a hypertherm unit but this is a great deal.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:Ok, I'll talk you out of it, let me buy it! Really though, you should be posting pics of your new plasma instead of asking about it, because this is a no brainer. According to your signature, you already have ESAB plasma's. So unless you have had problems with them, half price would trump brand loyalty. As long as they're both quality brands. But for regular price, I would definately go with the Hypertherm."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:My only hang up is what a pain in the butt it is to get consumables for them.   No one around here stocks them so i have to keep a ton on hand and that can get costly.   but i think im going to pull the trigger on this one.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:I wasn't thinking of that. I figured since you already have ESABS, and didn't mention that...... That could be a problem. BUT, if you are using this to make money, then the spare parts become just another business expense. To me, not a big deal, you are going to use them anyway, now you just have to keep more on hand. You should figure out a usage rate and make sure you don't run out, or that will cost you money. For me, since I don't use it to make regular income, having to keep large amounts on hand would hurt. Especially because I don't have a steady usage rate. If a job comes up and I am short on supplies and have to wait, it just costed me money."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:yes i know 100% its not stolen.  It was considered surplus inventory and being liquidated as such.  You know big business stuff you and i couldn't dream of. I think im going to pull the trigger.   ITs a business expense like every other,    I try to stock things but as everything else goes you can only stock what you can remember to purchase.    That and i would rather not tie money up in inventory that could be used elsewhere. And to be honest my record keeping isn't well GREAT.   with all the other crap commiefornia makes me keep track of somethings fall through the cracks.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:well her it is, im not going to say what i paid for it but it was under 4 figures. Cut up some scrap with it to throw in the bin.   Love the dual triggers on the handle,  cuts AMAZINGLY well.  Time will tell how the consumable life is.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:Congratulations Dualie, looks to be in really terrific shape and for the money I would definitely say that you got a deal. Regarding the torch assembly, consumables etc., We have an ESAB plasma in our shop as well, an older PCM 1150, we did change out the original torch for a system from Thermal Dynamics. The nice thing about this changeover was the quick disconnect feature, we have a hand torch and a machine torch that we change out depending on whether it is being used manually to cut by hand or mounted on our Buggo Shapecutter CNC. The other bonus was the price of the entire torch assembly, I believe it was under $400 total when we did that about 4 yrs. ago. The plug-and-play machine torch was of course extra, but when you consider the price of the stock torch when you might need to replace that one it was definitely a deal and much more versatile. Best of luck on your new purchase and I would be interested to hear of your overall opinion when you have had more time to work with it. Best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:Its brand new, first time its even been powered up outside the factory.hmmmm i have 4 different 1150's.    I will have to look into the thermal dynamics torches as two of them have broken torches.   Hows the consumable life with the thermal torches on the machine torch?   I haven't be thrilled with the life on the esab torches.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:Hello again Dualie, for me to comment on consumables life might not be quite accurate. I'm putting it that way because beginning welding students, part-time metal arts enthusiasts, and other not-so-well versed individuals can play hell with the life of anything like this. I think you probably get my drift. I have liked the fact that there are essentially two basic consumables that they can destroy and the rest of the other parts have typically faired and lasted very well. The outside insulator assemblies have lasted very well considering the amount of back-splash that they receive from all of the inconsistent torch heighth issues, unsteady travel speeds, incorrect angles that the torch has been held to while cutting, and probably a few other issues that I am forgetting right now. When I get an opportunity I'll try to get some photos of this set-up so that you can get a better idea of what these look like, I'll also try to get the info on the model # and a few other specifics. Again, looks like you got a very solid deal on that machine.      We have a new plasma that we will be hooking up to our new CNC table is a Hypertherm Powermax 85. I am anxious to get that one going so that I can make some comparisons. Good luck and best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:The consumable life should be good. If it was a 1125 model with the older torch, then change to the one torch. I had a 1125 (terrible consumable life) but 1500 was fine. Reply:funny you should mention that as i just picked up 14  1/4" aluminum hatch covers to form up for a fishing boat this morning.   Probably going to use the new esab to cut the corners before forming.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
