Hi, I was wondering what sort of welding process was most likely used here? Thanks Attached Images
Reply:looks like some hobart 3/32  7018 dcen at 83 amps from a miller 225 bobcat with 50 ft leads burning shell gas and using 13w30 mobile 1 synthetic oil from here, i could be wrong  about the shell gas, might be using citgo.
Reply:Clearly hog has no idea what he is talking about those are chevron 92 octane welds, you can tell cause the techron minimizes distortion. All joking aside though my guess would be either resistance spot welds or posibly tig spot welds
Reply:Thanks for the info. Having never welded before, is there a cheap way to do something similar at home? Not sure if you guys would know this, but would a silver soldering joint be strong enough here? Running down the entire seam?Last edited by Atomic_Sheep; 11-18-2011 at 10:42 PM.
Reply:Looks like a spot welder to me.  Unless there's some new fangled precision laser welding that I don't know about.Start looking here http://www.millerwelds.com/products/spotwelders/Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE

Reply:That piece looks like it was assembled then spot welded.   That means intense focal heat for a short time.  You're gonna need to find a similar process or weld/solder the piece prior to assembly to avoid cooking the insides.   The only somewhat reasonably priced method I can think of is a pedal controlled DC TIG and a quick blast.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
