I have a ln25 running fluxcore off of a powcon sm300 cc machine. Would it make sense to upgrade to solid wire without acquiring a CV power source? ln25 has the contactor and gas solenoid built in. I am getting tired of the spatter. I have gas and a flowmeter for tig machine. Thanks, Steve
Reply:IF YOU GO TO SOLID WIRE WITH A cc POWER SUPPLY, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SPRAY "ONLY". YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SHORT ARC WITH CC POWER, BUT YOU CAN GO WITH GAS SHIELDED FLUX CORED WIRE AND DO OK. MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON "DCEP" CURRENT AND 75/25 GAS. JOHN G.SMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases. There all here. :
Reply:Thanks, I am not sure it would be worth it, by the time I got a gun, gas timer etc. might be better off getting a cv machine with wire built in. I guess you can never have to many welders. Shop space becomes an issue tho... any internet companies that I could price this stuff out? LN25 powcon combo has been pretty bullit proof. Steve
Reply:LN-25 has a voltage sensing option inside the cover. There is a switch CV or VV. It does help, but will never work as well as a true CV power supply. The hotter you are running the better it works. So forget the fine stuff with .023 wire. DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Hmm, I thought that switch was to select for the power supply. I guess I will have to reread my owners book. Thanks
Reply:You re right, it is for the power supply you are going to use. John G.SMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases. There all here. :
Reply:If you mean a Powcon 300SM, that is a mig/stick machine. The 300SS is the stick only. If you have a 300SM you have a CV machine, just what you want. weldersales
Reply:You beat me to it. A PowCon 300SM is already a CC/CV machine. Flip the process switch to "Short Arc" or "Spray" and you'll be in CV. Just flip the switch in the LN-25 to match whatever your power source is set for. Now, tell me how you have the two hooked up. What kind of amphenol connector and what kind of cable? Or are you just using it as a voltage-sensing feeder?I have both a PowCon 300SM and a Lincoln LN-25 (without contactor) but have not tried to use them together. They are out at my Dad's and it might be nice to tell him how to do it and to give it a shot.

Reply:I got the ranger 250 so CV is no problem there. I was thinking about hooking it up to the old AC/DC tombstoneDewayneDixieland WeldingMM350PLincoln 100Some torchesOther misc. tools

Reply:I tried it before and it wouldn't work, but I didn't know about the switch. I'll try it sometime this weekendDewayneDixieland WeldingMM350PLincoln 100Some torchesOther misc. tools |
