20/20 bender?

Think I would be ok with making these 5/8" round bar handles ? They will ultimately be bent into a rectangle shape and welded at the joint. Dave
Reply:That is a crush bender, typically used on pipe and tubing. We used one similar to that in class today. (However ours broke from old age and over use!) I don't know how solid bar would do in that machine, but you need the right size dies in any case.City of L.A. Reply:I have the Shop Outfitters 20/20, I have used it with 1/2" and 3/4" tubing, but not 5/8". It works fairly well for my uses, it crushes it a little sometimes, but not all the time. In my opinion Shop Outfitters would be better then the HF or Northern Tool one by far, but it also has the largest price tag. Also depending on what you do, the Shop Outfitters unit, you can buy the multiplier, scroll and twisting attachments that allow me to do more tasks.
Reply:I want to bend solid 5/8" bar. Looking at my options. If anyone has any other ideas for homemade or store bought benders send em my way. Must be a relatively tight radius bend but not quite what you would get with heating and bending. Dave
Reply:If you are going to bend just solid bar go to HF and buy it. Make sure it is mounted propery and you might want a small extention on the handle I do not use one but my nephiew does. I have made several hundred 5/8" U brackets with one and no trouble and it will do scolls and other stuff to not great but not bad. Steel Thunder Welding LLC. Reply:Buy a hossfeld. Those Harbor Freight models are a joke, and the shop outfitters is a feeble imitation.A real hossfeld will bend 5/8" round all day long, in many different centerline radiuses.
Reply:I have a small Hossfeld and a Shop Outfitters and have had many years of very good service from them both.
