Here are some pics of the first welds I did, I rented a Lincoln 100 from HD and did these. This is the second time I welded and can you guys tell me what to change and what do next time. Since it was my second time I didn't know what heat or wire speed to put it on so I just tried a few things and this is what turned out. There all the same pic but my camera wouldn't take a clear shot of it so I took a few.
Reply:Looks like a good start, you need to keep your hand steadier.  The bead going across the top looks like the heat was right.David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:your on the right track... practice practice practice    daye
Reply:Doing fine there Josh, but try to have as much practicing material as you can scrounge up before you go renting again.Broken metal chairs,BBQ sheet metal stuff(no galvanised  ) bed frames, anything within the limits of that machine. Reply:good start. just practice practice!
Reply:Thanks!I rented it becuase I had to weld my seatbelt in my go kart and a motor mount. There still holding strong. I am trying to buy a MIG now, I was going to buy a Lincoln 220 ARC but there is no 220 in my garage, so I am trying to find something used. And I did have to weld galvanized but I had the respirator and ventilation.
Reply:Hey you gotta start somewhere right.. good job. Yes the one on the top looks the best. Just make sure you go slow enough and have a short arc length. Also remember, the best way to have a good arc length and steady hand is always try to have your other elbow steady on something and hold your welding hand with the steady one. You probly know that but comfort is key when beginning
Reply:Yea it was a little hard becuase I had it on top of a concrete block and I was standing over it. What is the best pattern to use? I was told that a C pattern was best because you are always moving forward and you don't contaminate the weld puddle.
Reply:Many use C shapes, many zig zag, and sometimes you don't have enough room to do either and a straight pass is necessary!Have a Jeep Cherokee?  Click Here!
Reply:Is there anything different that I should do, I am left handed. I hold it were I am comfortable, but should I go backwards or anything?
Reply:Use the search feature here, it really helps!  Like type "mig angle" or "push pull" in there, and lots of stuff will pop up bud!Have a Jeep Cherokee?  Click Here!
Reply:I found a pic of the seat belt mount-The tire rod snapped and I hit a tree doin like 20 and the seat belt held strong. Hopefully I don't test them againAnd here is a pic of the back mount for the seat belt-
Reply:I think you need more practice before working on saftey devices.I know you are new and proud, but .....DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:I would have, but all the welding places around here are closed here on the weekends. I needed it by Sunday and it was eather me do it or ride with out them. When I got there I did ask a few welders that were there and they said that they looked OK. usually I would have taken it to someone when it comes to this stuff but there was no body around to do it.
