Please be kind... So there was a couple bad spots in the top of the bed, so here the pro gress so far. And again these are my first pics i dare post on here. I've learned allot from W.W.com. I'm using .035 fc wire so heres a pic of the other side yet to be cleaned up... this also relates to my "grinds My gears thread" Cause under the sealant is/was expanding foam. the othe side ptetty much looked the same. So i cleaned it up.. I never though to take a pic before i tacked in the first new piece. Here is so of the top welds... Some of the under side weldsThen i added the lower piece Attached ImagesLast edited by Atomik777; 06-03-2009 at 07:59 PM.Here learning to turn down the Suck...
Reply:Some of the welds joining the 2 so farHere i tried to do a longer weld...  the "buldge" about 1 inch in from the left is where i "tried" to join one weld with the other... and well i'm not sure what went wrong. ya and i seened to loose focus near the end.So then i ran out of wire...Last edited by Atomik777; 06-03-2009 at 08:02 PM.Here learning to turn down the Suck...
Reply:It's an old truck, you can't expect a lot with what your working with. Experience makes a difference, but you have already started getting experience. Looks to me like your doing a good job. Everybody starts at the bottom in welding. Some of these weldors had Fathers and/or Grandfathers that were or still are weldors. A second or third generation weldor starts young and learns early, making the rest of us seem slow when we started, but, we all started at the bottom regardless of the age we started. The more you do the better you'll get. Some days it all works out, some days it don't! Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.                                         -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches

Reply:i see that they used seat belts for the latch on your truck they work nice .bed sides isn't easy to weld so it looks like your doing just fine.

You can see the potential in your workmanship. That and 035 is kinda heavy in my eyes for body work. So all things considered, Mighty fine.
Reply:Definately. I use .023 for body work, but that is with gas so find the equivilent in flux core.
Reply:The gate is shaved and the buckles do work great... better then the factory latch. And i picked up some 0.03 f.c. wire along with the tips Here learning to turn down the Suck...
Reply:Seat belt buckles is an old hot-rodding trick, works well, looks clean.Nice work so far on the truck.  May we please see a couple of pictures of the rest of it?  Interior, engine, full body?  Are you doing any other work on it?
Reply:Ya, its a flat black 88 stepside gmc i just bought as a project/resto/have fun. needs a rocker and misc bodywork, engine and tranny and frame are great, eng and tranny are from a 95. The cab has settled and needs either a new driver side bumper (rubber mount) or shims. I'll get some full shot tommorrow Next is the inner pass. rocker. then a exhaust. Got more pics and the switch to 0.03 f.c was a huge impovement. I tried some different bead patterns and took pics ill post up tomorrow with a exp of what i "Attempted" and i mean Attempted Last edited by Atomik777; 06-04-2009 at 08:01 PM.Here learning to turn down the Suck...
Reply:your fighting alot of variables that aren't exactly in your favor, flux core is not great for light sheet metal, assuming your using core, and those coatings are hard to get cleaned away. You will be surprised how much different gas and hard wire will work on clean metal. And by the way, run another extension cord out there and blow those fumes away with a small fan as long as your using cored wire no sense breathing all that crap. Keep practicing you will be fine."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251   Syncrowave 300   30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200   1 short hood    SA250    SAM 400

Reply:The only time it is good to use expanding foam for body repair, as far as I am concerned is, in a fiberglass boat, it adds buoyancy to the hull if submerged, and makes a great backing material for when doing fiberglass repairs in hard to get at places, and deadens the hull for noise!#1. Reply:Yeah, that's miserable.  The worst example of that I've seen was at my friends body shop.  Someone had done that on a 1971 Hemi Cuda that a guy brought in to get restored.  My friend nearly had a coronary when he saw it.  The foam was soaking wet and filled the entire quarter panel.  Took nearly three days just to get it all out of the body.Nice repair.  Always feels good to me to take something done wrong and do it right.--Wintermute Originally Posted by Atomik777The rockerAnyone who has ever used expanding foam for body work is a douchebag of unimaginable magnitude!Front and bottom in place
