http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...&sName=WeldersWhat do you guys think about it? I will be welding at most 1/8" and all the outlets I have are 120v, if it were 220v I would get the Lincoln Arc one.
Reply:Clarke is a good name. That is definately one of their cheaper welders and is SMAW. Are you sure you want a stick only machine?John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Yea because it is my first welder, and I just need something to practice. Later on when I get better and things I will get something better.
Reply:Josh, check welding depot .com I got a clarke 80e from them last year. You might even get the next size up from the 95 shipped to you for the sears price.Mine has worked real good. If I had known they were that good I probably would have got the 95 or the next one up for the money. From what I've seen in 110 arc welders I think they are the most reliable and reasonable priced, and warranty.pro-level dumpster diver                                     Hobart 125EZ
Reply:What have you welded with it?
Reply:I use mine for small repairs and playing around.I welded some fender brackets on a small trailer I have.I burn corn in a corn burner and I made several carts with wheels to move 40-50 gal drums full of corn. For 1/8-3/16 material it works good.If you are wanting to do alot of fabbing like go-carts and bikes and that kind of thing you might want a wire welder.pro-level dumpster diver                                     Hobart 125EZ
Reply:I used one of the Clarke MIG welders when a rep was doing a demo here..... I personally don't care for them as they are not the greatest quality......If you only have 120v available to you then I would recommend looking at a small MIG like the Hobart / Lincoln's..... I have a HH140 and it has done very well for my smaller stuff around the house and will do just fine on 1/8" with solid wire....and if I need to go thicker then I can switch to flux core wire......I also have a Miller Maxstar 150S that runs very well on 120v but it is an inverter not a transformer like the Clarke you linked in your post.....another thing to think about is support in your area....if you buy the Clarke and have a warranty issue can you get it fixed locally?
Reply:I have that that exact welder and to be honest, I would tell you to save your money. The only electrods you can use are 1/16 and 5/64 (thou I have used 1/8 the results weren't to good.) If you weld anything over 1/8 plate it will probably be waalot of cold welds. I found it diffcult to get a weld pool going, as if it was having trouble melting plate over 1/8. One cool thing was if you take time to adjust you setting you can weld 22 gauge sheet (I found between 30 and 35 amps with 1/16 6013).Last edited by Scrapmetal; 01-01-2008 at 02:03 AM.______________Clarke 95  Lincoln 135  Lincoln AC 225 ---------I'm an idiot, please talk slowing and simple.
