Hello, my name is josh, i am new to the site. I  Have a few questions in regards to a tig machine. I have used both miller and lincoln tig machines in my welding class at school, i am looking to invest in a machine for myself and wanted to know the pros and cons of both. I am looking at maybe a lincoln precision tig 275 or a miller syncrowave 250 dx, i know the cost of the machines is comparable but i want to know about their function. I will be doing alot of aluminum and mild steel, cromoly, or anything for that matter. Any comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Josh
Reply:I would buy the Lincoln, but look at what is on the back of my truck in the aviator.  Either machine, you will be happy.  Water cooled?DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Welcome.  They are both good machines and each mfg. has there good points, but for tig aluminum I would rec. Miller syncrowave 250.  For other processes it might be Lincoln.   Just depends.   JohnSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases.  There all here. :
Reply:Well thanks guys, yes they are both water cooled. Like i said i used both machines at my school and they are similar. I am  also looking for a package deal with everything needed to weld. Aluminum will be what im mostly doing but i will be doing steel as well.
Reply:DC is DC, its the AC performance that makes the difference.  I have not used the miller, so I can't comment.  If you learn how to use them, the bells and whistles do help.  Do both use Hi Freq start?  I have an arcmaster 185 that uses a spark like a car coil to start the arc instead of Hi frequency.  It works great.  It will start a longer arc than standard hi freq on AC or DC.  It also has touch or lift start for DC.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I think they both do but im not possitive. Like i said, i dont know a ton but im trying to learn so that i know exactly what i need to do the job right. Thanks
Reply:check for local service/repair .and if  you like red  or blue
Reply:Get a Hobart!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Yes i have checked on local repair/service shops, there are about three places within about ten miles of my house. Miller and lincoln shops. It just comes  down to which one will i get more bang for my buck. Thanks guys
Reply:If you do have either certified facility close, your choice boils down to 10 more amps on either machine and possibly seeing if one or the other will give you more in a package deal.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Ok that sounds good, i have done some price checking on some machines the other day i actually came up with something else. The guys at this local shop are going to set me with a miller syncrowave 350 dx for the same price as the lincoln precision tig 275. what do you think about that?
