Hey guys need your help. I bought a Ranger 8 welder. I would like to tig with it. I don't plan to do much so I don't need anything fancy or real heavy duty.I just need it to be low cost (of course) and need it to work when I want to use it. I will need everything including gauge. Thanks in advance
Reply:'TIG' and 'low cost' are 3 words that don't go in the same sentence....You'll either want a 'freq box' (HF251 or Lincoln equivalent), or a small inverter tig machine (like a Maxstar 150), then a torch, pedal, gas cyl, reg and something to grind tungstens with.It wouldn't surprise me at all if you end up spending as much or more for the tig set-up than the Ranger 8 cost. Keep an eye out on Craig's List for used HF boxes or small TIG machines, they show up there from time to time.Good luck!MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:is the machine DC output? you can do scratch start TIG with it... manual gas valve on the torch.Need gas, regulator, torch, and power block adapter... your LWS should know or have what you need.

Reply:that machine is dc output all you need is a tig torch (i prefer weld craft) a lead and a flow meter (i prefer smith) and a argon bottle, and a stinger block, if your gonna be welding sanitary your gonna need a purge rig which requires 2 flow meters and a tee to hook to your bottleLast edited by scubaholic; 01-02-2008 at 07:58 PM. |
