Hi all - I have an Aseti MMAW stick welder. I am going to be doing a fair bit of welding up top plates on steel posts to support a wood deck. I am using 3mm wall thickness posts and 9mm top plates to be welded as a fillet. I reckon that 3.2 rods are the go, and at the lower end of the available weld amperage. I would have thought that 2.6mm rods are going to require multiple passes. Will the 3.2 require too much heat and a risk of undercutting the 3.0mm wall thickness or should it prove ok...? I will do some trial runs on off cuts first, but would appreciate some assistance. Thanks all.CheersOzscott
Reply:yeh mate , id do it with 3.2mm 6013 rods , the best rod about in aus for this stuff is the WIA 12p or WIA 13s , i weld 2 or 3mm with these at about 100 -120 amps with out burning holes or warping too muchaustralian welding kid - i can fix it for ya sure its gonna cost
Reply:Cheers Sam. Appreciate the help mate. I use the WIA 3.2 rods. I rememeber at TAFE they reckoned that they were the best rods around. We trialled a heap of different rods there and they were the ones that welded easiest and the slag just warped off when you got it right without having to go back later and knock it off.Cheers again mate.Oz |
