I built a bunch of these for a customer over the last few days. They are not welding related, but I figured I would post something up to see what people's guesses are.I machined all of the components EXCEPT the screws. Everything else was bar or round stock. No prizes for the correct answer, but a instead! Reply:I forgot dimensions:Delrin wheels are 1.25" ODSkates are 1/2" x 3/4" x 10" longInner body "tube" is 2"OD x 5" longLet the guessing begin!http://jackalopefab.com/MM210Synchrowave 200DXMiller XMT350 w/60series feederMiller Bobcat 250 with SGA 100 and spoolgunHTP PlasmaFull Machine shop with everything
Reply:I work with alot of oilfield related inspection tools, and Im gonna go on a limb and say some kind of internal pipe "vehicle"? Ive seen some crazy setups and would not be the least suprised if they mounted sensors and or cameras on this for inspecting the inside of pipe(s)?Was worth a shot...Great work BTWBeer is proof that god loves us and wants us to be happy!
Reply:Damn it!!! You nailed it on the first try!It is indeed a vehicle that holds a fiber optic camera for pipe inspection. I'm just pissed you got it so quick!!!Actually, that may be a good thing you got it, because it may actually work!!Good job. Unfortunately the thread can be put out of it's misery!http://jackalopefab.com/MM210Synchrowave 200DXMiller XMT350 w/60series feederMiller Bobcat 250 with SGA 100 and spoolgunHTP PlasmaFull Machine shop with everything
Reply:I have a friend who's company does pipe inspection with such tools; they have a few different sizes, check everything from sewers to water to industrial gasses, and make him drive all over the area and work late for emergency work. I haven't seen his gear, but may have occasion to use some for checking some broken plastic water lines on another friend's property. Tools like that are actually sometimes welding related, as the inspections can be for the condition of welds on the insides of pipes.
Reply:Yeah, I suppose it could loosely be associated with welding! ;-)As for size requirements, I may be asked to make some risers to allow for use in 10" pipe. They are made for 6" pipe as it currently stands.Granthttp://jackalopefab.com/MM210Synchrowave 200DXMiller XMT350 w/60series feederMiller Bobcat 250 with SGA 100 and spoolgunHTP PlasmaFull Machine shop with everything
Reply:The only thing I would have guess right, and I was beat to it............
Reply:I know nothing of pipe welding...but is it always perfectly straight and bump-free at the joints?? I'm just surprised that there is no apparent allowance for wheel travel.Or is it undersized...say if it works on 6" pipe, is it more like 5.5" in cross section between opposite wheels?

Reply:Were the specs determined by the customer?
Reply:The specs were provided by customer. This is not rocket science as far as design goes. It just needs to be able to fit in a 6" pipe and be fed along until they find an obstruction. From there, they will be able to determine where to dig to repair the damaged section.Granthttp://jackalopefab.com/MM210Synchrowave 200DXMiller XMT350 w/60series feederMiller Bobcat 250 with SGA 100 and spoolgunHTP PlasmaFull Machine shop with everything |
