I feel like I've been able to make a living with my welding business all these years because of learning to weld just about every thing and not being a one process or one subject weldor. This is three recent jobs that are pretty far apart. The first is some working and loading cattle pens and chute. The last picture shows a weld where the rancher started to weld it himself and decided to hire it done. It's made out of 2 3/8" pipe and 3/4" sucker rod with welded wire panels. Attached Images
Reply:The next job is hand rails for a patio. If you can't tell, he's a UT longhorn fan. Attached Images
Reply:Thelast is a pot rack for a lady in Sun City. This was tough. The pressed animals and flowers and leaves are .020 and had to be silver soldered. I think it would have looked better in black but she insisted on this siver grey powder coat instead. Attached Images
Reply:I've already started on the next job. It is a far cry from these other three, but it all pays the bills. Attached Images
Reply:Hey, it all looks good, except for the last pic on the pipe.  You know, I kinda like the silver gray.  It certainly stands out against the black pots.  Like ya say, it pays the bills.GeezerPower Mig 255C185 TIGBlue 175 MIGRanger 8 Kohler 20HP1974 5K Lincoln/Wisconsin Powered (Cherry)Victor/Harris O/AK 487 Spool Gun
Reply:where did you get the texas sealand thats great work
Reply:The pressed animals and the seals came from King
Reply:Bob looks good I hope to one day have the talent to perform that kind of jobs.
Reply:Bob, that is some beautiful work. I only wish I could weld like that. I take it that you are in the Austin area since you are working in Sun City????BTW I think I have been to the place where you did the railings, either that or I saw someone with a very close copy of such. Reply:Bob, awesome work!  This might be a dumb question, but is that some type of a winch crane on your truck?  I can't really tell by the picture, but its cool!Esab TradeMaster TorchSmith AW1A Airline TorchLincoln AC/DC 225/125Millermatic 252 w/ Spoolmatic 15aThermal Arc 190 GTSSpeedGlas 9100v
Reply:That guy is gonna regret using that wire panels for the working pen or else he's got some highly trained show cattle and only gives them shots.  Work any of our cattle and that wire would be trashed right away, not to mention you'd get gored by the cattle because you don't have a good footing to get up the fence and out quick enough.Good work on your part though, I have a feeling you'll be called back to change it for him.
Reply:Nice work.  Yep, definately worth it to be a 'jack of all trades' sort of welder and welding and fabricating in the field makes you alot better than just shop welding.   Production welding is about as easy as it gets.  I did that for a few years too.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:Great projects.   I get most of my jobs I do welding  from tinkering and  taking rusty metal jobs.    I just built a couple logging arches for a man that has a bandsaw mill.      he didnt have the cash to buy a coomercial one but he had the pipe to make one.   It wasnt pitted but had just a good coating of surface rust on it.    The other shops here wouldnt take it.   i built it onsite and the other in the shop.      I also build things with moving parts from scrap gear boxes other shops wont,  They claim its too time consuming but over the years tinkering Ive learned what will probably work and what wont and a good idea on the aspects of what needs to go down.     Im about to build an offset  ditcher to drain some  soggy spots in  a friends feild.    I like the boom truck to.    I have always likes the old Gin pole rigs.   My neighbors had several on their service trucks.    Ihave an 85 Chevy 4 door ton I put my welder onto some times.  I want to put a pair of winches on it and a Gin pole  for some of my farm uses.   I just missed an R 700 Mack  Gas well special.   Had a hell of a front bumper pto winche on the front, a 25000 pounder on the back and a 60 000 pound under that and a fold down and stowable Gin 5th wheel and flaat bed with a tail roller.   And a cutom flat bed trailer.  it was a steal at 4500.      It would have been over kill but handy  working on equipment and  retrieval.
Reply:The cattle pens were built the way the rancher, a retired CPA, wanted them. I've built a bunch of cattle pens, a couple of roping arenas, and a wild horse adoption center and he wouldn't listen to any suggestions I put out so I built what he wanted.I couldn't function with out my gin poles. They are made out of 2 1/2" x 3/16" square tube with 2" x1/4" square tube inside. They extend to 19' long. There is only one winch, a 9000# Pierce electric. By design the poles stand themselves up and store them selves using the winch line. I got real lucky when buying my first welding truck. I looked at a truck but didn't buy it. The man that owned it was a weldor and heavy equipment mechanic. He knew every thing about gin poles and even though I didn't buy his truck he showed me how to build one and how to get the most out of it. His kindness, almost thirty years ago, has helped me so much through the years. I have been lucky to get to learn from some wonderful weldors through the years and it is why I have helped so many as well.Jtodd, I live on the north side of Lake Georgetown. I do a lot of work for the Sunny crowd.
