I hate 8010

admin

Is 8010 supposed to stick to my work constantly?  I can not go a whole bead without getting stuck.If you know how to help, I would appreciate it greatly.Fellow Welder,SMAW482
Reply:Can you give us a little more info?  Rod Size?Amps?Polarity?Other than the tensile strength - it will have the same charactistics of a 6010.  You have to make sure you have sufficient amps powering it.Here in the Great White NorthMosquitoes can't fly at 40 below

Reply:8010's are a DC+ rod.  If you are running AC use a  8011 rod.A 1/8" rod range is 70 to 130 amps with 100-110 for optimum range ( adjust from there).  It seems that you may have to up your amps 10-15.Give it another run at let us know how is works.Here in the Great White NorthMosquitoes can't fly at 40 below
Reply:I bought about 150lbs of various new rods and there's mostly 6010, 7018, and there's about 35 1/8" 8010's. What are 8010's for? Pipe? Reply:Yea it's a downhill pipe rod, in fact the most common one.The only thing finer  is the new and improved version of it, 8P+.I think it's quite a bit different than 6010 myself, and there are major differences in the various 6010's.JTMcC.

Reply:Yep, I run it maybe once a week. I ran it for about 4 hours straight without shutting it down one time, both idling and at welding speed, and it never gave me any trouble. The engine was rebuilt probably 20 years ago and never burns oil but it sure likes gasoline. I figure the tank on it holds about 18 gallons. It welds like a brand new rig, I'm never gonna sell it. It used to be mounted on a skid and was used in the oilfield when new in the late 40's, early 50's. Reply:The 8010 is a primary rod in the piplining industry for a filler and cap rod. Id like to learn alil bit more about it but also i have been told to run it like a match, when u strike it then back off just a hair. Then build your puddle and get it on! But watch because once you get to the belly of the pipe (the 2:00-5:00 position) it will tend to try to run so just control it!2001 dodge 3500 with custom bed, 1995 miller 44dlx welder and all the equipment any welder needs! Soon to come a Miller pipe pro 304 with a 12rc feeder!
