I might give it a try tomorrow since im off school tommorrow and its about 10 degrees out. So i might plan on spending a day in the garage. Anyone got tips on gas welding. I will be using oxygen-mapp gas. Also anyone got any pics of some gas welds. Thanks
Reply:Yep, use acetylene. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:Try to keep the flame on the rich side a little bit. If you go too lean, you will wind up oxidizing (cutting torch) the steel a little on the quick side. It will kind of crumble before it melts properly. To practice?? Get some brazing rod, and start with it, then switch up to steel filler. Oh, and keep some wet rags around. Any kind of torch welding adds that delicious amount of preheat that spreads right down the steel, and eventually into your forearm where there is no leather protecting you!!!And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return. |
