Well, I looked at my old thread.  That just got mean.  I took Sheildarc's advice and tried some steel.  That was alot easier.  The wire is O23, not sure what that means.  I changed the tip in the gun like the man at Farm and Fleet said to O23.  And changed to the other tank of gas like Mike said to do.  I read the tank labels the one marked for steel is 75% Argon and 25% Carbon dioxide.  The one labelled Aluminum is 100% argon.  Is this the right stuff for welding those?I am going to borrow my friends camera and try to post some pictures here. And thanks to everyone who tried helping me in the first place.
Reply:Oh and I asked David R if he could change my name since it started such problems.  What happened to that discusswelding site?  That is were I was first reading about welding.
Reply:Slagpit, my apologies for the nasty comment, there was some other sillyness going on in this site and I thought your post was more of it....I'm sorry. The .023 is the diameter of the wire your running, your tip should be close to the same size for the electricity to make good contact to the wire.If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:The gasses you listed are correct for the metals as labeled.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:I have to ask a question, and I mean no offense by it....  How did you come up with such an ugly screen name?  That name is not at all befitting of the girl in the picture.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:Dear Ms. Slagpit; Please keep the name it is suitable for a welder. Don't let the fears or short comings of others dictate who you are going to be.Jimmy
Reply:i agree keep the name. the steel will be much easier to learn on that Al. some of the best steel welders have trouble with Al.
Reply:Well Ms. Slagpit I'm sorry if I offended you the first time around here..Take no offence..I offend everyone here at one time or another.. We were going thru some funky crap here at the time of your first post..Just figured it was all part of it..Carry on and just be you.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Well I tried the steel like you suggested I do.  It was easier, I brought home some of the peices.   I just have to borrow my friends camera and take some pictures and post them here.  They are kinda bad but I will practice some more.  Thanks to those who have been helpful.
Reply:Nobody and I mean nobody starts out making good looking welds. I have seen some of the prettiest mig welds you ever saw fall apart just sitting on the floor. I have also seen some truly ugly welds hold when you would think they would have failed. Welcome to the world of welding. Keep practicing as that is the only way you will get good at it. Watch everyone you can weld (I've been at it 40 years (started really young)) and I still do it. Everyone has different techniques. Also listen to other welders because even the dumbest welder you ever meet will know a trick you don't because nobody knows it all. If you are serious about this get yourself a copy of "The Procedure Handbook of Arc Welding" available from the Lincoln Foundation and commonly referred to as 'the bible' by welders. Read it, reread it and then keep it handy as it is the best general reference you can get. And you don't need an engineering degree to understand it. There is a really good response for anyone who doesn't like your name ---BITE ME, lol.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
