ok i read lots on 7018, 6011, 6013, 6010, but nothing on 7014 .  i burned a few rods last night building a antenna mount for the house.  just though i would try something different.  I got nice beads, smooth and even, wish i took a few pics, i have to do another one, so maybe i will.  oh the material was .120" rect. tube to .25" plate at 85 amps dc.  so any comments on its uses. oh i found it was easier to run than 7018.  whats your opinion.
Reply:I really think that you are gonna LOVE running nice big purdy E7024 beads better if you are like me.
Reply:I like 7014's for alot of things too. They do make pretty beads, and the slag practically jumps off.Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
Reply:7014 is a fast fill rod, low penetration, and a drag rod.  AC, DC + or -.Its big brother 7024 run on AC makes for some nice fast flat welds. I run the 7014 on DC+ with great success.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I agree Dave. I really dont care for 7024's personaly they are limited to flat for there for I can only use them ocasionaly. As for 7014's I love em but if the metal has a heavy mill scale or a little rust the 7014 sometimes does not want to "wet out" were as a 7018 cuts the crud a little better so I use it most. If I do something that needs to look nice for a customer and I am forced to use stick I use a 7014. I also enjo experimenting with diferent rods and I am now wanting to try some 80XX rods and some of the other super strength rods but they are very pricy for play so I got to wait on somebody to pay me to play. Reply:Isn't the 7014 good for all positions whereas the 7024 is not?
Reply:Yes you win a prize! That is the reason I dont keep 7024's nice but to limited. A 7018 is my main rod and if set and burned right it makes a great weld. A tube of 7014 is always in the truck for "pretty" welds. Steel Thunder Welding LLC. Reply:do the 7014's have to be kept in an oven like the 7018's, or can you keep them in a water tight container like the 6010's?
Reply:I have my welding students use E7014 when they first begin my SMAW class.  They are one of the easiest electrodes to use and don't tend to stick like E7018 can.  These electrodes can be dragged along the base metal while still maintaining an arc.  They are an all position rod, but I don't personally care for them in the vertical or overhead positions.  They are not a low-hydrogen electrode and therefore do not require storage in an electrode oven.  In fact most electrodes that are not low-hydrogen require a small amount (1-2%) of moisture content to perform their best. The third number in the electrode identification is an indication of the position that rod can be used in, if it has a #1 it's an all position rod.  A #2 means flat/horizontal fillet welds and flat groove welds.  A #4 means it can be used vertical downhill.Talent is a flame. Reply:so i can run a 6010, and then run the 7014 for strength?
Reply:You got it. I keep all my rods in tubes all of them. If I open a new tin I put them right into a storage tube and then take out little by little into a working tube on that I cary when welding. It's just a good policy clean and dry. Look at Home Depot they cary lincolin tubes the are awsom. Steel Thunder Welding LLC. Reply:I carry 3 types of electrodes on my truck: 7018 in 3/32, 1/8, and 5/32; 6011 or 6010 in the same sizes, and 7024 in 1/8 and 5/32. Those will do anything you  want to do with mild steel. I tried 7014 and saw no use for it. Keep in mind I grew up welding (started at 8) and the hiring criteria in the oilfield amounted to one question. Can you weld 7018 uphill? I do a lot of fabrication and repair on heavy stuff that has to be tough. If you can use it 7024 is the stuff to use because it has the highest elasticity coefficient of all the mild steel rods. That means it will stretch farther before it fails than any of them. My business partner laughs because I call them speed rods. They are also a very efficient and cost effective electrode. When run correctly there is no spatter and cleanup is mostly let it cool down. As for storage all of the manufacturers provide that info. Even 6010 should be stored in ovens, but not the same one you store 7018 or 7024 in. Those have higher temp requirements. Any code work will specify the storage requirements. I store mine in rod tubes at this time and live in high humidity and have had good luck with doing this. Two rod ovens are on the list for future equipment, right after the plasma cutter. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.

Reply:It is like 6013, to me I just don't like it(it pisses and farts, the slag gets in your way, all kindes of stuff I just dont like). 7018 is just better to run, and 7024 is nicer as well. I am like JollyRoger I keep 6010, and 7018 on the truck as well as some big 7024 for when I dont feel like pulling the wire feeder out.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:My first impression is 7014 goes where you put it.  Its a nice fast fill rod.  It has its place in life just like the rest of the rods.  7024 kicks azz when you have a lot of flat stick welding to do.  It runs best on ac.  I have built some nice stuff with 7014 and 7024.  Now I have MIG and Pulsed Spray MIG.  Faster and better. When I am on the road and have a lot of flat fillets, 7024 is the way to go.Use it, get used to it and when the need is there, there is no better rod.David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Like I said in another thread when I only had a A/C buzz box welder I ran 7014 often. Now that I have better welders there's not much reason to buy 7014 when you have 7018 on hand.
Reply:i just started using the 7014 because i don't have a rod oven.  it is an ok rod. i prefer the 7018.
