Hey I just started using the tig welder weve got, its a miller 320A. Its old and its about the size of a fridge but its got a water cooled torch and works great! I am trying to learn the basics so I can move up to welding cages. I am doing OK just sitting on the bench but put me in a car overhead welding a joint and theres no way!! Not yet at least. Dont know if my pictures can be seen but heres what I have done so far. My tungsten is about the same as my filler which is 3/32 and its 2% thoriated. Dont know much else about it thats what it said on the package. I am boxing the control arms on my mustang, do I need to tig them noo way but I am trying to get some practice. I did a bit on a watts link piece I am making but other than that these are some of my first tig welds in a project. I was really pleased although the pic quality is poor they turned out well. I noticed a bit of undercut on the edges though. The appearance is stacked dimes look although it doesnt look so in the picture, I cant get them "perfect" yet though but I am trying. whole arm, I like dimple dies! I am in the building mode, I will probly do a tear down once its all mocked up and clean things up and paint them HTP Invertig 201Lincoln Idealarc SP250Miller 180 AC StickBy farmall:They should have held the seagull closer to the work, squeezing evenly for best deposition.

Reply:Pics are too blurry for me to see. If you touch the tungsten to the puddle or filler, are you sharpening it right away?DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I do sharpen it length wise and I dont touch the tungsten to the puddle. ALthough once I accidentally stuck the tungsten to the filler and it arced through me HTP Invertig 201Lincoln Idealarc SP250Miller 180 AC StickBy farmall:They should have held the seagull closer to the work, squeezing evenly for best deposition. |
