OK, me and a friend are bobbing the bed on his toyota and Im looking for a sheetmetal tool that holds the sheet metal even and with a small amount of spacing between the panels.  Ive seen them before on another forum but cant find it again.  Hope someone knows what I am talking about. Thanks Greg G

Reply:Depending on how you are going to weld this, you may regret that gap. Rog02 not long ago posted up a good use of clecos to do sheet metal seams. Something you might think about.http://weldingweb.com/showpost.php?p=586020&postcount=6Also they sell flangers that make a step in the panel so you can do a lap joint rather than a but joint.http://www.eastwood.com/ew-panel-fla...xtra-wide.htmlThey also had a set with V jaws to bevel the edge of a but weld, but I can't locate that one right now.Last edited by DSW; 12-22-2011 at 11:15 PM..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Flanges & Clecos are the way to go, best thing since sliced bread!Buy American, or don't whine when you end up on the bread line.
Reply:Clecos's and flanges work VERY well for most things.  That being said, they do not always work/fit where they need to be.  That's when those HF clamps pretty well.  An added bonus of flanges and cleco's is that it gives a bit more material to prevent burn-through.
Reply:The HF butt welding clamp set is what I was talking about.  We are taking about 14 inches out of the bed of a Toyota and These should help a lot.  As for a super clean seam, we arent to worried about that because its going to get beat up on the rocks and trails.  Thx for the helpGreg G
Reply:They worked well when I shortened my bed.  Hope they do for you as well!!

Reply:Unfortunately, no.  I picked up the cab in August and that is pretty much as far as I have gotten with it.  I've been doing a lot everyday, but nothing that would affect the visual appearance, building a new front clip.
Reply:If I found a cab like that, it would inspire me to spend all types of money too.  Very nice curves on that thing, and gotta love the old classic roof lights.Lincoln Handy Mig
Reply:There are many other ways to hold sheet metal together in alignment, pieces of flat or bar stock tacked across the seam, you can use the handle of a hammer to push the two pieces flush while tacking, or use a scrape piece of sheet metal tacked on with a vise grips to pull out one side or the other to match, even a hooked pick will work also. I have done many panel replacements and I have only used those clamps maybe a few times....Lincoln pro mig 180Lincoln Square Wave Tig 300/wp 20/home built water cooler Victor, Purox, Harris, O/A welding/cutting setupsVintage Craftsman drill pressVintage Craftsman/Atlas 12"x 36'' lathe7''x 12'' w/c band saw Everlast 140 st
Reply:Alot of good suggestions but those panel holder put a gap that may be abit excessive in my experience,.-40+ but if you are using them to hold a long box get yourself a 9" ss shinking disc online to deal with the warpage you will encounter because of the gap causing upset in the metal.best
