I want to build a rear bumper for my truck since mine is tweaked any ideas its a 2007 dodge ram 2500 4x4. Thanks guys
Reply:im currently in the planning stages of my bumper for my '04.5 2500. ive decided on 3" pipe across the back, welded to the original mounts or make my own mounts. for my license plate i was just going to rivet it to the pipe.dont really need anything fancy since the stock tow-bar is stronger than the bumper, so its really only there to stop you backing into stuff. I love to see these guys that go out and spend $1500 on a ranch hand when i could probably build a decent one for about $450 - a 3" piece 3/8" thick and some diamond plate.I break things for a living...
Reply:I'm partial to the Fab Fours design. http://www.fabfours.com/Products/Dod...3871-34/Page/7Install the special viewer needed. It lets you see a pretty cool rendering.
Reply:I made a replica of the fab fours, i found their product to be what i was looking for. Also made some custom clevis's. I have also started a Fab Fours front bumper. I spent roughly 300$ all said and done for materials and professional line-x coating. Where as they want upwards of 1500$ for a rear one..... give me a break. Their was definatly alot of time put into layout as far as calculations but it went together very smoothly. Attached Images
Reply:i wont lie, they do look good. but ive always been curious as to why they put 3 holes for trailer balls. the bumper is only rated to like 6K or something and the cat3 reciever is rated to like 13.5K. i guess its more of a pet peeve than anything.I break things for a living...
Reply:i like pressure welders but i would like mine to be straight all the way across and have a more simple step for the plate would i be best starting with some heavy C channel?
Reply:Pressure welder, What size sheet did you use for your bumper? I have a front replacement that I am working on and need to finish the sheet work.ThanksTodd
Reply:i used a combination of 3/16" and 1/4" The portion below the lincence plate where you step is 1/4" the rest of the bumper is 3/16" with all the compound angels it makes for an incredibly strong structure. My mounting plates and gussetry are all 1/4". The D rings for the clevis are 1" thick. True story believe it or not, i had three friends mudding in a farmers slough, 1 F250 powerstroke, and two jeeps. The F250 was hooked up to both the jeeps trying to pull them out and also dug its self down to the frame. Of course they call me and my truck is a pavement queen! i use it for pulling my sleds not mudding. So i go out to help, luckily we could strech the sling to the gravel approach so i didnt have to be completely in the mud. I hooked up to the clevis's on my bumper and pulled all 3 vehicals out in 4-low. All 3 vehicals were hung up on the frame, mind you my duramax is incredibly far from stock but it shows the strength these bumpers can posess, and the power of a duramax!!
Reply:Cummins Duramax
Reply:my cummins have always served me well.... My new 6.7 was shaky at the start but now she is good to go

Reply:ya that picture was taken this summer, everything on the truck now is blacked right out. Its a work in progress man, its a huge money pit with all the modifications but i enjoy it. A big passion of mine is diesel trucks and sledding in the mountains, when im not pressure welding of course!
Reply:I used to have a license plate like that. I lived in Thompson for a couple of years.
Reply:no way! haha i have to drive up to thompson every other week. I work at the kelsey generating station for manitoba hydro which is a fly in from thompson. |
