Hi guys.  I try to do better using the comments that I got from some of you.  I tried to aim for a shallower concave with good penetration.  Without remote control,  I just try to increase speed when it looks like it's getting hotter or slow down when i'm not getting enough heat(foot control on order already.  should be on the way soon).  Settings are the same.  1/8" metal,  1/16" tungsten and rod.  I found the better temp to be around 85-92 amps.  I started with about 55 from the left.  As before,  let me know how to improve my welds.  I know it takes time and practice but it's easier when I know what to aim for and start developing good habits.The stick portion on the bottom two pics, I used 1/16 6013 rods with 45 amps.  My concern was penetration.  It looks to me like I didn't have enough heat.  Those rods are rated as 45 amp max.  Is the penetration enough???  can I increase amperage eventhough it was only rated as 45???Thanks in advance!TIG DAY2 WITHOUT FOOT CONTROLBACKSTICK 1/16" 45 AMPS ON 1/8" MILD STEELNOT ENOUGH PENETRATION??Last edited by storm; 01-30-2008 at 06:24 PM._______Miller Maxstar 150 STLLincoln ProMig 140Hobart Handler 210
Reply:For day 2 You get a big thumbs up!5'th one from the left..top pic..You just need more time..Heat looks good as does the gas coverage.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:thanks!  I just realized I was welding hotter that ideal then.  I was aiming for a flatter bead like the ones on the right.   I'll mark that one out and aim for that bead height width and consistency.  what about the penetration on stick mode??  should I  increase amperage to see it bead at the back as well??Thanks!---it doesn't help that I don't know a welder close to me...  adult schools sched doesn't fit my free time...  I really appreciate the input._______Miller Maxstar 150 STLLincoln ProMig 140Hobart Handler 210
