has anyone tried running a VS feeder on CC to mig things, especialy Al.and how does it work.I would like to go with a RC feeder, but my modile has only got CC....theres another question how does a RC work on CC?Fire away!G
Reply:I have run an 8VS on CC. Short circuit is extremely difficult and limited, but globular transfer and spray transfer are easy to do. Never tried alu. I mostly ran flux core. Works extremely well on FC and dual shield wire. Are you talking a Miller RC feeder? If so, you will have to have a 14 pin plug on the welder...if not, it will not run at all. No 14 pin remote hookup means VS only.
Reply:thanks DDA52I suppose any generator with CV has the 14 pin plug!Mine has none, but id rather upgrade to one that had rather than get a wirefeed and a shop power source that i didnt like to weld with.G
Reply:No, not all of the CV models have the remote capbility. Bobcats do not, but do have a CV tap. You have to go up to the upper tier engine drives to get a remote capable unit. Trailblazers, Legends and up have them. Linc has some with remote, but I don't go there. I just stay with blue stuff.I run a TB302 and a 12RC. Sweet only begins to describe it, IMO. It acts more like a shop machine than a engine drive/feeder setup.
Reply:so did you ever try a vs feeder from your TB and if so how did that compair?I do some structural stuf, but no pipe any more, but i was spoiled many years ago with big lincoln self generating shop welders for code pipe and would assume that it might be hard step back with the equipmentG
Reply:VS runs very well with the TB. I prefer the RC, but use the VS often.
Reply:The VS feeders off my Trailblazer are sweet, I cant wait to get an RC.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:So why do you prefer the RC.i guess youd have the vs on cc and the rc on cv!but that was just a guessG
Reply:Wait a bitI think i just read on miller cyberspace somewhere that the VS will act exactly like the RC if conected to CV.Does that make sence to you guy's that have them?(So many abreviations.....and such a small mind...)G
Reply:has anyone ran ali on a suitcase. i got the tb302 and 12vs. was thinking of converting my linc 180 plus over to ali."Retreat hell, were just fighting in the other direction"Miller Trailblazer 302, Extreme 12 VS, Dimension 400, Spectrum 375, HF 251D-1, Milermatic 251 w/ spoolgun  Hypertherm 1000Lincoln sp 1702000 F-450 to haul it
Reply:I Know nothing about Miller.   I do know pushing aluminum is a pain in the azz at minimum. As far as RC (remote control I hope)  My LN-25s always have a hot electrode. On CV, the LN-25 is just a "dumb feeder".  It pushes the wire out at the speed you select.  It works awesome. If I switch it to CC, and use it on a constant current power supply, its a pain in the azz again.  I have only tried this a couple of times.  For the wire being hot all the time, I got used to it and have burnt many hundreds of pounds of wire through them.  I run into problems when I get into the higher ranges.  Using .045 dualshield with the Ranger 250 cranked all the way up, I had a lot of sticking problems.  Pull the trigger and the wire would weld to the tip, or start with a big bang and weld to the tip.    Using the wire feeder with a cable that goes to my power supply (LN9-GMA) so the wire is cold until I pull the trigger, that problem went away. Its hard to beat a suitcase and engine drive that has CV when you are on the road.  I use Co2 because I can crank up the gas with out breaking the bank.  I also found out .045 solid wire carries a steadier arc than .035.  Try it your self.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
