Cylinder Head Repair

I have an 8v Volkswagen head which decided to have a ring land fail at high rpm. The damage is too deep to be fixed by decking the head. Any suggestions on trying to weld this myself, or anyone on here who is more skilled/willing to help me fix the combustion chambers. I wouldn't mind shipping the head to someone as I would rather pay some $ than ruin this head. (it is a 3rd party casting with better ports and is rare) Attached Images
Reply:Hi Chris, That looks very repairable by decking as all you need to be concerned with is the sealing of the head gasket and the valves. All of that peening won't affect anything except maybe the cc volume of the chamber. Unless it's a lot worse than I can see, I would ask a motor machine shop to take a look and see what they think. Also a valves job is always a good choice once you have the head off. Just my opinion.
Reply:I agree that decking it slightly will have it seal perfect. Id really like the cc's to be the same though. I am going to have big valves put in along with getting this decked/welded whatever else needs to be done. I am just saving up for the fancy valve-train at the moment.

Reply:If you get a metric graduated pipette, some plexiglass a bit of grease and some food colouring you can measure the combustion chamber volumes. They have done it on the powerblock a few times, prolly videos of it, Horsepower I think. Then you can just use a carbide in a die grinder to match them to the biggest volume one.
