Reply:First of all is it Aluminum or Magnesium?Makes a diffrence in the grand scheme of it all..If it's Aluminum grind it out to a v and use 5356..Same thing but diffrent..Same principals apply..http://www.weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread...ighlight=Honda...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Can you tell me How to tell alum or mag???
Reply:If it's a Harley it is aluminum. Anything else I can't say. Tig is the common process for repairing them, though I have seen it done with sticks with no problems. For aluminum use Ar, or ArHe mix. Never ArCo2. Lincoln says under 400 amps use straight argon. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.

Reply:Be sure and do some pre-heat on those cases. I use a Victor rosebud tip with my O-A set and some wax temperature sticks. 250 deg. F should do. Another thing that the heat will tell you will be whether the parts are clean enough.  Older Harleys before the Twin Cammers were often sand cast. Those are porous and will often conceal oil within the pores. They can be tough to get clean. The really old ones were so porous that Harley used orange shellac inside to seal the blowholes. If at all possible, the engine should be completely stripped and the cases bolted together to ease warpage.....unless the work is to be done on the inside. Magnesium is seldom used on bikes but the shave test mentioned above should be used if you aren't sure. Most bike cases are aluminum alloy of one type or another and can generally be welded. Good luck.   Last edited by gnm109; 02-11-2008 at 01:38 AM.Miller Millermatic 252Miller Syncrowave 200Liincoln AC-DC 225Victor O-A Set
